Message from the President
Have a wonderful weekend!!
STM CubeSat STMSAT-1 Launched!!
Breakfast with Santa Wrap-Up
The STM PTO hosted the annual Breakfast with Santa this past Saturday. Over 400 attendees turned out for the event to enjoy pancakes, visit with Santa, participate in holiday crafts, and shop at the Little Elves' holiday shop. The STM Breakfast with Santa is a beloved community building event and we wish to sincerely thank the many volunteers who worked so hard to make this event a success! We would also like to extend a special thanks to the elementary school teachers who were able to read some of their favorite Christmas stories during the event. Thank you to Mrs. Baney, Mrs. Bauer, Miss Conrad, Miss Newell, and Mrs. Thomas.
THANK YOU TO ALL OUR VOLUNTEERS and, on behalf of the Breakfast with Santa Team, we wish you all the happiest of holiday seasons!

Student Council Giving Tree
This Advent season Student Council chose to help our community by supporting children served by the Catholic Charities Migration & Refugee Services, the largest refugee resettlement agency in Northern Virginia.
Our students created gift request tags which are hanging on the Giving Tree in our front hallway. These were all needs given to us by the Center and are the very basic of needs.
We have asked the students to go home and discuss this commitment with their parents before taking a tag from the tree.
If you feel you would like to participate, please do so. We are asking that you bring in an unwrapped gift before December 16. This will allow our Student Council members to get the gifts to the Center in plenty of time for Christmas.
Thank you for your generosity and May God bless you and your family during this holiday season.

It’s time…to make a difference
The Combined Federal Campaign (“CFC”) is in full swing, and right now is the perfect time to designate St. Thomas More Cathedral School as your charity of choice. St. Thomas More Cathedral School is a tax deductible 501(3)C organization and is a participant in the CFC for Federal employees.
The CFC is a Donor-Designated Campaign - By designating the CFC five-digit code of the charity of your choice, you ensure that your donation goes to meet the needs that you feel are most important. Simply designate the organization of your choice where indicated on your pledge form by entering STM’s five-digit code (58640) and the amount you wish to pledge!
How to Donate – Most Federal employees donate by making a regular payroll deduction. Links to the Combined Federal Campaign can be found on most agencies’ intranet or other internal communication mediums. Payroll deductions can also be established using Employee Express https://www.employeeexpress.gov/. Please designate 58640 (St. Thomas More Cathedral School) if you would like to make a donation through regular payroll deduction.
Universal Giving – Beginning in 2014, donors may make a pledge to any charity that is not listed in your local CFC charity list. What that means is that Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, Friends, and STM Alumni that live and work for the Federal Government outside the Washington Metropolitan Area can designate STM as their charity of choice. Be sure to contact anyone you know that is looking for a worthy cause and tell them to select 58640 on their CFC pledge form.
For information about the CFC, including details on the public accountability standards for participating charities and more, visit the CFC Home Page at www.opm.gov/cfc .
The STM-PTO requests each family to volunteer 20 hours per school year in a wide variety of activities. We know some families are not able to do so and we offer an alternate of paying $300 for the school year instead. Each family is responsible for submitting their hours in the electronic Volunteer Service Hour Log Book via the STM webpage, or by clicking the button below.
In order to be a volunteer within the school (pizza lunch, classroom helper, room parent) or for roles such as scout leader, sports coach, field trip chaperone, etc., you must be VIRTUS Trained. All hopeful volunteers must attend a "Protecting God's Children" session, and then fill out the appropriate background check/paperwork - available via the STM School office. Once the office has record of your session attendance, and the paperwork has been received, you are granted the ability to volunteer in the school. Family-based events (such as the International Festival, Breakfast with Santa and Hot Dog Bash) do not require Virtus Trained volunteers, as the children's parents are onsite. Questions? Contact Mimi Neubauer @ email@example.com.
