Together in Learning and Faith
September 20, 2018 - Our Lady of the Angels Catholic School
Please be a part of OLA'S Parent School Council!
We need you! Please join us on Tuesday, September 25th at 7:00 pm for our OLA Parent School Council Establishment Meeting.
Parent School Councils are vital for the enhancement of programming for our children and bringing special events into our school. Without a PSC, programs such as hot lunch and milk programs, cultural performances and celebrations, would be sadly lacking from our learning community. Parent School Councils play a integral role in advising the schools and providing feedback - not to mention that we are stronger together! Please consider attending this meeting and being a part of building OLA’s Parent School Council - or getting involved in other ways to support the building of our OLA masterpiece.
Keen to help with this establishment meeting or specific events/programs at the school? We would love to hear from you! Please email us at ola@eics.ab.ca

Orange Shirt Day
Orange Shirt Day is a growing movement of reconciliation, and a legacy of the 2013 St. Joseph Mission residential school commemoration event, held in Williams Lake, B.C. It grew out of a former student’s account of having her brand-new orange shirt taken away on her first day of school.
Wearing an Orange Shirt is meant to recognize the harm done to residential school students, and show a commitment to the principle that every child matters.
A date in September was chosen because it is the time of year when children were taken from their homes to residential schools. It is also an excellent opportunity to set the stage for anti-racism and anti-bullying policies for the coming school year.
Orange Shirt Day is an opportunity for First Nations, local governments, schools, and communities to come together in the spirit of reconciliation and hope for generations of children to come.
Please make sure you wear your orange shirt on Friday, September 28th!

OLA Sleep Stars
Sleep star tip this week: Did you know that you actually can't "catch up" on sleep by sleeping in on the weekends? It is healthier to try to go to bed a little earlier each night and "catch up" that way. It will also mean that you won't spend your whole Saturday in bed so you can go enjoy a day of playing outside with your friends.
Remember, the bright lights in a TV, on a computer screen, Ipad, tablet or cell phone make it harder to sleep and keeps your brain winding up, instead of winding down before bed. Keep off technology before bed, and look for non-technology ways to relax so you can be a “Sleep Star."
Working at being great OLA Sleep Stars heps our bodies and brains be ready for learning and growing!

VISITORS TO OUR SCHOOL
In the interest of student safety, and to reduce classroom interruptions, we ask that all visitors to the school come directly to the office. If you need to pick up your child during the school day we are happy to call their classroom and get them to meet you at the office. Thank you for waiting in the office for your child to arrive. We appreciate your help in keeping our little ones safe.
Dropping off a lunch for your child? Thank you for bringing it to the office and we will ensure it gets to your child, keeping classroom learning interruptions at a minimum.
