News From the LRC

Great News

I am very pleased to share with you that Glen Grove collected over $700 for Change for Change! The money helped purchase books from the fair to donate to The Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. This was made possible through the Scholastic campaign, All for Books. Scholastic will also donate $700 worth of books to a children’s charity of their choice. Thank you for making a positive difference in someone’s life.

Scholastic Book Fair

Glen Grove had another successful book fair thanks to all of our fantastic volunteers especially co-chairs Julie Moon and Jen Crouse. Their leadership is why all of our teachers received many books for their rooms. The school library was also able to get over 100 books! Amazing job ladies!

Tech 2019

Third graders and LRC Director, Lisa Funke, presented at Tech 2019 at the Illinois State Capitol. This one day event allows legislators to see first-hand how technology is used in the classrooms across Illinois and to talk with students and teachers that use it. This event started in 1990 and is presented by the Illinois Computing Educators (ICE).

The pictures below are of Senator Laura Fine and Representative Jennifer Gong-Gershowitz, both legislators’ children graduated from Glen Grove.

Book Clubs

Students in all grades are really enjoying their lunch/recess time book clubs. The 4th and 5th graders are reading the historical fiction titles, A Night Divided and Resistance. The third grade students are reading the first Stick Dog book in the series. Both book clubs are preparing for the author visits by creating lists of questions to ask the authors.

Authors Coming Soon

Author Jennifer Nielsen will be visiting the 4th and 5th graders Tuesday, May 14, thanks to Scholastic. If your child is interested in getting a personalized sign book fill out the book order form in this newsletter and return it to the library by May 13.

Author/illustrator Tom Watson will be visiting the third graders Wednesday, May 22, Thanks to the Book Stall. If your child is interested in getting a personalized sign book please fill out the book order form in this newsletter and return it to the library by May 17th.

Mandatory Health Forms for 2019 - 2020 Incoming 6th Graders

Please remember that all incoming 6th grade students MUST have a physical examination (within the last 12 months), including required vaccinations, turned in prior to August 21, 2019. Your child will NOT be able to start school until the physical form is turned in. If your child’s health forms are already complete, you can turn them into the Glen Grove health office any time between now and the last day of school. They will be forwarded to your child’s middle school with their health file. If you have any questions, please call Mrs. Hastings, Health Coordinator, at (847)657-2394. Click here for the health exam form.

Food Service Information

Please review this important food service information which includes the menu cycle and the cycle calendar. Click here for the May Food Service Newsletter.

Change in Dismissal Arrangements

If you need to change the after school pick-up arrangements for your child, please send a note to you child's teacher. If you need to change arrangements at the last minute, during the school day, please make sure you call our office before 2:00 p.m. to inform us of the change. There is a lot going on in a school office both at the beginning and the end of school day. By calling before 2:00 p.m., you are giving the front office staff the time needed to locate classroom teachers and communicate the message regarding the pick-up arrangements for your child in a timely manner.

Cell Phone Usage Form

All students that carry a cell phone to school must have a cell phone usage form on file with the front office. Please fill out the attached form and send it to the Glen Grove Office. The guidelines are included in this attachment.
