We Love Our Knights!

Week 4
First, a reminder that today, September 3rd is a Minimum Day for ALL grade levels.
TK & Kindergarten will dismiss at 11:40.
Grades 1-5 will dismiss at 12:00.
I would like to thank our community members that were able to attend Tuesday's virtual, "Coffee With the Principal." It was great to share the detailed COVID-19 guidelines that we use in Walnut Valley and at Castle Rock, as well as communicate the lines of frequent communication between the LA County Department of Public Health, our WVUSD Nurses, WVUSD COVID Compliance Teams, and school site administrators.
I hope those that were able to attend found the meeting informative.
We hope our families have a safe, relaxing Labor Day Weekend. Remember, there is no school on Monday, September 6th.

At our meetings, you will learn more about the programs offered to support English Language Development, provide valuable input/feedback on our ELD Program, learn how to best support your student at home with best practice strategies, including Test Prep for ELPAC(all grades) and CAASPP(grades 3-5), and much more!
Please join us at our first meeting on Wednesday, September 8th, at 9am. All ELAC meetings will be held via ZOOM.

Arrival Updates & Information
In the morning, our school gates open at 7:50. The bell rings at 8:15 for students to go to their classroom. The gates close at 8:17 and instruction begins at 8:20.
Our arrival procedure will run smoothly if all parents are following the same expectations. If dropping off students in front of the school by car, students should:
- Be ready to exit the car by themselves (parents, please stay in the car)
- Have all of their belongings ready (backpack, water bottle, mask, etc.)
- Be exiting on the passenger side (sidewalk) of the car
If any of these are not being followed, our system does not run smoothly, which creates an unsafe environment (and frustrated parents!).
If drivers need additional time to drop off, we encourage them to legally park on the street and students can walk on to campus.
Signs are posted for drivers going either direction on Castle Rock Rd. that U-Turns are not allowed.
Dismissal Updates & Information
Our dismissal process has gotten smoother and quicker each day.
Throughout our dismissals, we ask that parents and students keep their distance and not gather at the gates.
Please communicate your pick-up spot to your children, and keep it consistent! Each day we are trying to connect students to parents between the front and back gates.
Students, parents, and staff are expected to use the crosswalk at the sidewalk, and NOT cut through the parking lot, in the bus lane.
Drivers picking up in the front of the school, thank you for using the green sign with your child's name and teacher. This helps our process very much.
Parents that park in the neighborhood and walk up to the front of the school, we ask that you wait for your child in the designated area on the grass in front of the Kindergarten playground and keep the sidewalk clear. Please do not wait in the grade-level areas.
Please remember to maintain social distance from others while waiting.
Students with siblings, we ask that the older student go to their younger/youngest sibling to wait.
Families choosing to utilize the Back Gate during dismissal, please note that students not picked up by 2:50 will be brought to the Front Office. Parents will need to show I.D. and sign out their child from the Front Office as a late pick-up.

District Device
Teachers will be taking inventory and collecting devices for our District IT Department to service. The device will be checked out from the student's name. Students needing a device will be re-issued a device once devices are ready.
Please do not bring personal laptops to school at this time.
