A Letter from our Principal...

Hello Riverview Families,

The first week of school was a great success! It was exciting to have students back in school to experience the wonderful energy the first day of school brings to everyone. Our amazing teachers and support staff did a super job of welcoming students back in their special way. We even rolled out the red carpet for our 6th grade students this week. Kindergarten students will get to walk the red carpet to their classrooms on Monday.

As we wrap up the first week of the school year, I want to thank parents for your patience with parent pick-up lines. Like most schools, Riverview experiences long back-ups during both arrival and dismissal. We have a beautiful building to serve students all day, but our parking lots for both cars and buses are highly limited in space for the nearly 500 students being dropped off and picked up each day. There’s no easy fix. Please continue to follow the guidelines that have been established in order to move traffic in a safe and timely manner. It’s especially important to not block the exit route so we can keep the line moving and allow vehicles to exit the pick-up loop. Thanks again for your help keeping the arrival and dismissal process safe for our students and staff. We appreciate your patience and support during our student arrival and dismissal.

I would like to invite parents to attend the first PTO meeting of the 21/22 school year. The meeting will take place on Tuesday, September 14th at 6:00 pm via Zoom. In addition to the regular agenda items, there will be a “Meet the Principal” time set aside during the meeting. I hope you can join us. The link is below:

A Message from Nurse Kerrie

Hello Riverview Families!

Phew! We made it through the first week! It was so good to see the (masked) faces of your amazing children back in our building.

Just a few reminders related to our COVID protocols.

  • Please DO NOT send your child to school if they have any symptoms that could be related to COVID-19, even if you think they just have a cold. Without the daily attestations, we are relying on you to assess your child’s health status and appropriateness for school. Thank you for your help in preventing the spread of COVID-19.
  • If your child, or anyone in your household, tests positive for COVID-19, please notify the nurse, principal, or front office staff right away.
  • If your child is asked to quarantine because he/she was found to be a close contact of someone who tested positive, please let us know if they will need a laptop and/or hotspot in order to complete schoolwork at home. Your teacher will reach out regarding how to access ongoing work.
  • HIPAA laws protect confidential health information, including COVID-19 status. Because of this, we are unable to share the identity of anyone in our community who tests positive. Thank you for understanding.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions. The phone number in the health room is 360-563-4404 and my email address is kerrie.vespaziani@sno.wednet.edu.

Transportation Update

We understand that some of our students and families have struggled with district transportation issues these first days of school. We apologize for these frustrations and want you to know our district transportation teams are working around the clock to resolve them.

There are many reasons for these struggles, from traffic congestion to signing up students for bussing. Although legitimate, we do not want to make excuses. We appreciate your patience and grace as we work hard to correct issues.

Please continue to check eLink/Versatrans on a regular basis as student schedules and routes are continually being added and adjusted during these first few weeks of school. If you notice your student does not have a route/schedule indicated in eLink/Verstrans or there is an issue with your child’s transportation information, please contact the district's Transportation Department. Parent/guardian transportation assistance is currently available by:

  • Emailing transportation@sno.wednet.edu
  • Calling 360-563-3525. Feel free to leave a message, and staff are available to answer phones Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • If you have already called (and left a message or talked to a live person) or sent an email and you have not been responded to or route information in eLink/Versatrans is still not available/accurate, please email transportation@sno.wednet.edu again.

Please use our eLink/Versatrans online tool to find your student’s eligibility for bus service, Individual student bus routes and schedules can currently be accessed through eLink/Versatrans.

  • Login: (student 7 digit ID# with 0 ) Example 0911111
  • Password: (8-digit birthdate-no spaces) Example 02222021

Thank you for your understanding.

Note: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and limited swim lesson availability the past 18 months, this year's 2nd Grade Swim Program will be open to district 2nd and 3rd grade students (2021-2022 school year). Participating 3rd grade students must not have previously taken advantage of the program.

Did you know?

  • Drowning ranks fifth among the leading causes of unintentional injury death in the United States, and second among children in the state of Washington.
  • Participation in formal swimming lessons may reduce the risk of drowning by as much as 88 percent among young children aged 1 to 4 years, who are at highest risk of drowning.
  • Regular physical activity in childhood and adolescence improves strength and endurance, helps build healthy bones and muscles, helps control weight, reduces anxiety and stress, increases self-esteem, and may improve blood pressure and cholesterol levels.

Swim for Life, a nonprofit organization, was formed by local community members who have a passion for enriching the lives of young people in our community. Its mission is to make young people safer in the water. To that end, we would like for you to know about our exciting partnership with Snohomish Aquatic Center.

Swim for Life is offering every 2nd or 3rd grader enrolled in the Snohomish School District a free session of group swim lessons at the Snohomish Aquatic Center for the 2021-2022 school year. (Note: Sessions are typically four or five weeks long, and classes are offered once or twice a week.) This community program is being funded through generous donations raised through Swim for Life. To download a flier of 2021-2022 swim lesson session dates, please click here.

The Snohomish Aquatic Center strives to provide a FUN environment in which children can play, learn, and grow, with safety being the primary focus. The progressive learn-to-swim program is designed to help swimmers of all ability levels become safe and proficient in the water, teach essential water safety skills, include opportunities for in-session advancement, and work around busy schedules. The skills learned will carry throughout the lives of many, ensuring healthy and safe habits.

For details on how to enroll your 2nd or 3rd grader in group lessons at Snohomish Aquatic Center, please see the FAQs. Please contact the Snohomish Aquatic Center at 360-568-8030 with any questions or concerns.
