Admin Update

Our teachers, staff, and students have been working together to build a strong, welcoming school community. We are very proud of the way our teachers connect with students and families. Recently we were asked to present at the School Committee meeting about something wonderful going on in our school. We will be showcasing our courses that lead to the Computer Science CTE at the high school. Please check out the January 14 school committee meeting to see the work of our students highlighted.

Laptop Care and Maintenance

We would appreciate your support in reminding your student of the following:

  • Laptops should be charged every night and shut down regularly.
  • Students should not write, draw or markup the computer in any way. Unfortunately, we have seen a rise in this behavior, it's important to remember that the laptops are the property of the school district and on loan to the students. Writing on the laptops is considered vandalism and will have consequences.
  • 7th-grade laptops must have the school-issued rubber case on them.

Thank you for your support in reminding your students of the importance of caring for their school-issued laptops.

Any issues or problems with the computer can be fixed by the CCMS Help Desk team, just bring your laptop to the main office drop off box and fill out the service form.

Counselor's Corner - Ms. Fontaine

I can’t believe we are already finished with Quarter One! There are so many wonderful things happening in our school, I don’t know where to start. I have had the pleasure of meeting so many students since the beginning of the year. I have met with our Newcomer’s Group, welcoming a great group of new students to our building. In addition, I have been able to meet with a small group of students to help facilitate connections in the building. I have also met with many students about academics and organization.

As we begin the holiday season, please keep others in mind. Once again, the South Kingstown School Department and the Jonnycake Center of Peace Dale are partnering to provide gift cards to local families this year.

If you are a family that needs help with holiday gifts, you can sign up for the holiday drive with Jenny at 401-789-1559.

If you are a family that would like to donate gift cards, we suggest you purchase gift cards from Amazon, Walmart, Wakefield Mall retailers, or VISA/Mastercard. Please mail or deliver cards by December 17th to The Jonnycake Center of Peace Dale at 1231 Kingstown Rd. Hours are T - F 9 to 4 and Sat. 10 - 2.

Spotlight on Team Atlas

Students enjoyed completing a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) activity. It was the STEAM Fraction & Decimal Art Project. Students used graph paper and created a picture, they counted the number of boxes of each color to indicate a fractional amount for each color of the picture, then they simplified the fractions, and finally, they converted the fractions to decimals. They created some very artistic pictures and also made connections about fractions and decimals with relation to an image.

The Dean's Den

Greetings CCMS Families,

For those who don’t know me, my name is Bridget McNamara and I’m the Dean of Students this year. I was formerly a PE/Health/Fitness teacher here at CCMS. As we have finished the first quarter of school, I wanted to take a minute to remind you of some of the policies and procedures here at CCMS.

  • Tardies: The school day begins at 7:26 AM. Tardies are tracked and handled through my office. At the 3rd unexcused tardy, I will reach out via email sending a reminder that your student(s) has received her/his 3rd tardy. Upon the 5th unexcused tardy and any there after, your student(s) faces disciplinary action.

  • Cell Phones: Cell phones and electronic devices are not allowed to be used during the school day (unless permission has been granted). Phones will be confiscated if out and turned into my office. On the first offense, students can retrieve it from the main office at the end of the school day. On the second offense, a parent or guardian will be contacted and must pick it up from the main office. And on the third offense and for everyone there after, a parent or guardian must pick it up and a detention will be issued.

  • Bus Notes: The bus company has instituted a new policy this year. If students are taking a different bus or getting off at a different location then a note must be written AND verbal confirmation must be made. With that said, students should drop off their bus notes to the main office first thing in the morning. I will then call to confirm the note.

If at any point throughout the year, you have questions, concerns or just need some assistance for your student, please do not hesitate to give me a call or send an email. Thank you and I look forward to a great year!
