The Grove
Be Kind, Work Hard, Be Brave
Note From Principal Graham
We worked on the power skill of collaboration this week. It made me think of the wonderful community partners we have this year who support our school. Thank you to Resource Financial, United Community Bank, Jeff Cook Real Estate, Fellowship Baptist Church, Bellacino's Pizza, Skate Station U.S.A, and Dunkin' Donuts. We appreciate your collaboration with Oak Grove to help our students and staff.
Please take a moment to look at the upcoming dates. Lots of things are occurring in October.
Collaborative Planning Day - October 6 - Dismissal Time Change 11:20 am
The following information is provided by Kathryn McPhail, Lexington District One Chief Communications Officer
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We’re sharing information about a small change to upcoming Collaborative Planning Days including the one set for Wednesday, Oct. 6.
Elementary schools will now dismiss at 11:20 a.m. rather than 11:40 a.m. for all collaborative planning days for the 2021–2022 school year, including the following dates.
Wednesday, October 6, 2021
Wednesday, November 10, 2021
Wednesday, February 9, 2022
Wednesday, March 9, 2022
We chose to slightly adjust dismissal to allow more time for our buses to run the elementary routes before picking up the middle school students, which will hopefully decrease delays for the older students.
By dismissing elementary schools a little earlier, we also hope to ease the traffic around the campuses where the elementary and secondary schools are close to each other.
Again, dismissal for elementary schools will now be at 11:20 a.m. for Collaborative Planning Days. Lunch will still be served.
This change does not impact secondary schools. Middle schools will still dismiss at 12:10 p.m., and high schools will still dismiss at 12:40 p.m. Thanks for your understanding.
Congratulations Ms. Harmon

Upcoming Testing For 2nd Graders
Dear 2nd Grade Parent or Guardian:
Lexington One will administer the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) and Iowa Assessments to all 2nd grade students. The 2nd grade screening is part of the mandatory state testing program for all 2nd graders.
CogAT measures general thinking and problem-solving skills that students have learned through in-school and out-of-school experiences. It indicates how well the students can use these skills to solve verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal problems. Iowa Assessments measure student progress in reading and math. Information from CogAT and Iowa Assessments supplement teacher observations about what students are able to do. As a result, teachers are better able to employ methods and materials that will provide optimal learning conditions for each student.
Test Schedule
Tuesday, October 12 - CogAT Verbal Battery
Wednesday, October 13 - CogAT Quantitative
Thursday, October 14 - Nonverbal Battery
Tuesday, October 19 - Iowa Reading
Wednesday, October 20 - Iowa Math
Your student will be allowed to attempt sample questions prior to the actual test administration.
Please be sure your child:
- is present and on time every day because testing is done in the early morning.
- doesn’t have competing activities that would cause fatigue.
- maintains a typical routine during the testing period.
Make-up Picture Day - November 3
The following students will have the opportunity to have their picture taken on this day:
- If they were absent on September 29
- Didn't purchase pictures for original picture day, but now would like to
- Would like a redo of the original picture day photo

Safety Procedures
Procedures are in place to maintain the safety of our students, staff, and parents.
Parents may walk their child/children to the entrance of the school but we ask that you do not enter the building past the front office.
Children will have time throughout the day to clean their hands.
In order to keep our staff and students safe, we are not allowing parents/guardians to deliver lunch or other items during the day.
We will be practicing social distancing in the classroom.
The students are in the family model of learning. When they transition to another classroom, like related arts, they remain seated with the same group of students as their classroom seating chart.
Since we are in the family-style model, we will be eating lunch in our classrooms. We will be unable to accommodate having guests come to school to each lunch with their child or visit the classroom.
All rooms are equipped with hand sanitizer installed on the walls and individual pumps. We ask that everyone use our school-provided hand sanitizer.
