MESSAGE FROM SUPERINTENDENT
Hello Big Red Community!
One of my favorite questions I get asked is how to get involved in the school district. I especially love this question because it touches on one of Belton ISD’s values and beliefs — community engagement. We believe that learning experiences for our students are enhanced through the engagement of our community.
So how can you get involved? The right way is different for each person, but here are some ideas to get you started:
Volunteer at a School
Each school’s needs are unique, and so are the skills and experience you bring to the table. Reach out to a campus to learn more about how you can contribute your talents. Several of our schools, for example, have Watch D.O.G. groups. D.O.G.S. stands for “dads of great students.” The group is open to any father figure — fathers, grandfathers, step-fathers and uncles — who want to volunteer in a variety of ways.
Attend Extracurricular Events
Our athletic and fine arts events are in full swing! Make plans to attend a competition, concert or showcase this year. It’s a great entertainment choice and a fabulous way to support our students. Our kids want to see you there cheering for them. Yes, you! And I guarantee you’ll leave with a strong sense of pride in the Big Red Community. I do. Every time.
United Way Spirit Chain Game
Our annual United Way of Central Texas Spirit Chain Game is coming up on October 14. You can read about the details below, but I just want to point out how this opportunity gives our elementary students a chance to practice empathy and collaboration, two of our Journey of a Graduate competencies. Not to mention, the end result directly benefits our neighbors throughout Central Texas.
I’m grateful for the privilege to serve the Big Red Community alongside you. Have a great weekend!
Best,
Matt Smith, Ed.D.
Superintendent
