Welcome to the end of week 9, This term is coming to a quick end - we have so much going on at present! We only one more week left of this term - wow!

Well done to our Gymsport team who competed in Waitara this week - some awesome results - see below. Thanks to all the parent support for this team as well - Tu meke!

We had a very successful disco last night. Big thanks to Harmony and the Home and School team for the organisation of this. There were some amazing hats and some fantastic dance moves - I am sure all the kids who came to the disco slept well last night! Thanks again to all our families for the support of the disco.

Thanks to all the kids who auditioned for the talent quest! We have some amazing and talented kids here at Vogeltown. We are doing the heats at present with the talent quest on Tuesday next week. It is going to be an amazing final - I would hate to be a judge!

We are still after some responses to our community consultation - especially around re-shaping our school values. If you have not already, then please clink on one of the links below - it will only take you 5 minutes max. we really appreciate your feedback here.

Cellphones at Vogeltown

We have had an increase of students in the senior school bringing cellphones to school. We understand that these are a great form of communication if required before and after school, however during the day the phones MUST be handed in to the office and can be picked up at 3pm. This is part of our school policy and it must be adhered to for the safety of everyone. Thanks whanau.

Well done to all our kids who went out to Waitara yesterday, and big thanks to all the parent and caregiver support! Also, special thanks to Mrs Seed and Mrs Irving who spent a lot of their time coaching the kids - the results below speak volumes about their coaching! Thanks team!

A big welcome to Anea-Fay Brisco and her family to Vogeltown School! We know you will enjoy your time in Rm 3!

We have had an 'Art Bungee' happening at Vogeltown over the last 4 weeks. A big thanks to Mrs Harlan for offering this bungee and running it. Well done to Jevana and Lienke who have completed their awesome framed artworks!

Taranaki has had several cases of people with measles. We don’t have an outbreak at the moment but more cases are likely because of the large outbreak in Auckland.

Now is a very good time to make sure everyone in your whanau has protection against measles. Children should be vaccinated on time at 15 months and four years of age.

If you don’t think you are immune to measles you need to make an appointment with your GP clinic for an MMR vaccination.
Please be patient if you can’t be vaccinated straight away. It is not possible to vaccinate everyone at once.
The risk of catching measles in Taranaki is still low.

Taranaki DHB has a new measles FAQs page which aims to answer questions you might have about measles.

Click the link below to view the FAQs, which can also be reached via the Taranaki DHB website home page. http://www.tdhb.org.nz/services/public_health/measles.shtml

The school office is in the process of making sure we have immunisation certificates on file for all students, so that in the event of a measles outbreak, we know which students are not immunised, as they may be required to stay away from school until the outbreak is contained. You may be contacted by the school office and asked to bring in proof of your child's immunisation. Thank you for your cooperation.

As you will see by the ad below, we are taking a very limited number of our of zone enrolments in 2020. If you know of anybody who is wanting to enrol at Vogeltown in 2020, please get them to read our newsletter and this ad which will be in the midweek on Wednesday the 11th and Saturday the 14th.

We have a huge amount of lost property currently - especially at the senior school! We have not been able to put it out on the courts like we normally do due to weather. If your child is missing some gear (especially sweatshirts) then it is probably in the lost property cupboard - beside Rm 13. We will be putting all the left over lost property in the clothing bin by the end of the term, thanks.

As part of our annual consultation with parents and families, we have a questionnaire on offer for families to fill in on the learning conference nights. We asked similar questions in Term 1 of this year.

We are aware that some parents did not have enough time to fill in the surveys or get to them on these nights.

We are still after as much community voice as we can, especially around the school values - we received some great feedback about the values in Term 1 and we have now broken this down in to two areas - Curriculum delivery and Vogeltown student dispositions. These surveys will close at the end of the last week of this term.

Please click on one of the links below for a link to either a google form or a survey monkey to complete the survey and provide feedback:

On the 19th of October we are going to be having a 'Working Bee' around both school sites. If you are available on this day, please let Mr George know. We anticipate the day starting at about 10am and, depending on numbers, only going till about 2pm.

We have a number of areas around both school sites that we want to 'tidy up'. We will provide most of the gear - although an S.O.S may come out before the day for an extra wheelbarrow or shovel etc.

Contact Mr George at mike.george@vogeltown.school.nz

1) Check the lost property - it is overflowing at the senior school! We will be bagging the left overs next Friday and giving it to the Salvation Army. PLEASE have a look before the end of the term.

2) If you have not done already, can you please fill in the community consultation survey. See the link above - surveymonkey and google form. We already have 120 replies!

Thanks whanau

Have a great weekend! If you are playing sport, then give it heaps!!

Remember if you have any issues you wish to discuss, please come in and see me or contact me on principal@vogeltown.school.nz
