School Fun Run-PTA FUND RAISER
PTA's Spring Fun Run fundraiser means there is no selling or delivering products. Our program begins on Friday, Feb. 10th. Family and friends anywhere in the world can support our school by giving pledges toward the number of laps your students will run on the day of the Fun Run: Friday, Feb. 24. Our Fun Run will be powered by the Boosterthon Fun Run, an organization that’ll organize Fun Runs for over 1,600 schools this year.
What We Are Learning This Week
Our Main Goals this week:
Language: Our children will be working on letter matching, syllables in common words, letter identification with letter sounds, and rhyming with common words.
Math: Your child will be able to count up to 30 and create sets 0-10. We will be comparing quantities and comparing numbers. We will be using connecting blocks similar to lego to make rods. Then we will discuss MORE or LESS. Your child will be working with a mat or divided plate to create simple addition and subtraction stories up to 5.
Social Studies: Your child will be working on how can I say that in a better way.

Help Your Child Improve Auditory Skills by Teaching How to Clap Syllables
Knowing how to count syllables will help your child read word words and break words up. A syllable is "a letter, or combination of letters, uttered together, or at a single effort or impulse of the voice." Sometimes teachers refer to syllables as word chunks. Every syllable must contain a vowel.
How to Teach What a Syllable Is
It is important for students to recognize syllables in words. When they are able to say one syllable at a time, spelling becomes much easier. Fortunately, recognizing syllables is an easy concept to teach.
Here is sample dialogue for demonstrating to your student what a syllable is:
“All words have syllables. A word might have one, two, or even more syllables.”
“Reading has two syllables: read (clap)—ing (clap).” To demonstrate, clap as you say each syllable.
“Blue has one syllable: blue (clap).”
“Pumpkin has two syllables: pump (clap)—kin (clap).”
“Now you try. Clap your hands for each syllable in the word pig.”
Have your student practice with these words:
seven
mice
hotdog
window
truck
paper
yellow
toys
elephant
Here is a video that shows how it is done
Remember it is all about hearing the words.
