Course of Conflict
Treaty of Nonsuch (1585): The treaty gave funding to the Dutch Protestant rebels which was the last string for Philip II.
Sir Francis Drake's Raids (1585-1586): Those raids gave England enough time to prepare for the invasion and contributed to the victory.
Execution of Mary, Queen of Scots (1587): Mary was a devote Catholic and her execution lead to the launch of the Armada.
The Spanish Armada sets sail (May 19, 1588)
England bombards the Armada (July 21, 1588): This attack thinned the ranks of the Armada.
English caused Spanish to cut anchors: (July 29, 1588): England sent eight burning ships and forced the Spanish out to sea where they were attacked while disorganized.

Lord Charles Howard
Lord Charles Howard was one of the factors by which the Spanish Armada was defeated and England reached victory. He was the first commander-in-chief of a large scale, and his smart strategies led to the triumphant outcome. He had a little experience when his father, the former lord admiral of England. This may have contributed to Howard’s expertise and success as a fleet admiral after he inherited the title. Throughout the battle against Spain and thereafter, Queen Elizabeth I, whom he happened to be related to, and him did not get along, which caused minor issues along the way.
