Community Processes and EI Intervention

How does community influence learning? How does a sense of community create a safe learning environment? In this session, we will explore the intersections between Restorative Practices and Universal Design for Learning and how these two community practices can be used in determining appropriate strategies for instruction. Objectives: 1. Increase knowledge of community building in Restorative Practices. 2. Increase knowledge of UDL community concepts for engagement and learning. 3. Increase knowledge and skills in choosing strategies that build a vibrant and safe learning community.

EI Behavior & Math Strategies (Brain Focus)
3-5pm
Let’s spend some time exploring no-prep teaching resources that will get your students thinking and talking mathematically with powerful questioning strategies. We can tackle those topics that kids find confusing and share tools for assessing, note taking, and even writing IEP goals for specially designed instruction (SDI) in mathematics. Bring your trickiest math problems, we’ll have fun and lighten your load at the same time. We’re better together! Objectives: 1. Increase their knowledge & skills in creating a climate of safety, 2. Increase knowledge & skills for choosing math strategies based on brain networks, 3. Increase knowledge & skills for math specifically for reluctant students/tough math concepts, & 4. Practice no prep strategies to use in your classroom tomorrow.

EI Behavior and Math Collide (Community Focus)
3-5pm
How do we push students thinking about learning in a safe and low risk environment? Learn strategies to promote risk taking in learning and critical thinking. Leverage the power of Thinking Classrooms and community to promote engagement and motivation. Explore educational technology that stretches thinking and draws students attention. We will discuss math strategies to use in your classroom tomorrow that help promote engagement and positive learning. Objectives: 1. Increase knowledge in self care/resilience in an EI setting. 2. Increase knowledge and skills in creating an environment of safety for thinking, 3. Increase knowledge and skills in promoting risk taking, 4. Explore technology applications for learning that engage students and 5. Learn an easy problem-solving strategy to work with general education partners.
