We have some new implementations this semester, and you can read about those below. Please don't hesitate to contact the school if you ever have concerns or questions regarding your student.

The Power of Yet

What does it mean to educate the "whole child"? This has been the essential question of our staff’s Multi Tiered System of Support (MTSS) professional development work for the past month. Our team has been completing professional development to help us understand that educating the whole child is not just teaching them the Indiana standards or national standards associated with our core curriculum, but teaching and supporting both behavioral and emotional needs. To learn more about MTSS, please click on the following link.

In January, our team will begin constructing a school wide Intervention Matrix for literacy, math, and behavioral/emotional support. Think of this as a menu of interventions that our teachers can refer to based upon the individual learning needs of our students. This work has led to our staff developing a growth mindset. Please take some time to view The Power of Yet video. Take the MTSS Challenge! Please send me an email at jasilver@k12.com to let me know that you are receiving our newsletters and your reaction to The Power of Yet video.

Need to talk with your student's teacher?

If you would like to speak to your student's teacher, please schedule an appointment with them. Many times parents want to pop in a few minutes early at pick up or stay a bit after drop off, and teachers are unavailable due to teaching their classes. To guarantee that your concern gets the attention it deserves, an appointment is the best way to ensure your needs are being met. If you have questions, please contact the school.

Cobra Action Plan for Behavior

All Hoosier Academy students will begin using the Cobra Action Plan for behavior in conjunction with our Student Code of Conduct which begins on page 80 of our school handbook. Emails went out to families with the plan attached, and you can find a copy of it and the handbook linked below as well. If you have any questions, please contact the school.

Photo Release

You should have received an email regarding our Photo Release form. Please fill out the form ONLY if you do NOT want photos, videos or audio of your student used on social media and our website. If you do not fill out the form, you are GIVING PERMISSION for us to use photos, videos and/or audio of your student to showcase our school.

Attendance Matters

Attendance reminder – As a reminder, it is up to the Learning Coach to input attendance for virtual days. These days count toward the mandatory attendance rule and if your student accumulates 10 unexcused absences, they can be referred to truancy court.

WOW awards

WOW awards – We continue to see WOW awards being given to students for work completion, positive attitudes and making good choices! Please make sure to ask your student what a WOW award is if you don’t know, and how many they have earned!
