Staff Appreciation Week 2019
What an incredible Staff Appreciation Week we experienced this week! Thanks to our PTA and many parent volunteers for donating items for this week filled with FUN and wonderful moments. We appreciate during this week that we recognize everyone instead of highlighting individuals during nationally recognized weeks/days because it takes a TEAM to help our eagles SOAR each day! Thanks to our English Landing Bus Drivers, Support Staff, Teachers, Office Administrative Assistants, School Nurse, Counselors, and our School Social Worker.
A special thank you to our PTA chairs of Staff Appreciation Week: Mrs. Kari Rush and Mrs. Stacy Schmidt.
Our PTA always SOARS!

MAP Testing Continues Next Week!
The MAP test will be given to English Landing students in grades 3-4-5 beginning next week and will be administered completely online. The GLA are challenging tests that measure whether students are learning what is expected of them at their grade levels. Performance on the GLA is used by the state and federal government to determine if schools are making progress toward their achievement goals, but state accountability is not the only reason Park Hill administers these assessments. It is our aim to ensure that the education we provide results in high achievement for each of our students and schools. Teachers and administrators use results from these tests to help your child learn and to make critical classroom, school, and districtwide decisions that are intended to increase achievement for all students.
There are some things you can do to help your child do well on these tests including:
- Make sure your child is well rested and eats breakfast each day of testing.
- Make sure your child attends school and arrives on time on testing days.
- Speak positively about the test. Your attitude is contagious.
- Encourage your child to have a positive attitude about tests and to listen closely to test instructions.

Celebrating Birthdays at English Landing!
Celebrating Student Birthdays: (Park Hill Parent/Student Handbook pages 37-38):
We are happy to celebrate student birthdays and half birthdays (if your child has a summer birthday) at English Landing! To protect the health and safety of our students, families may bring pre-packaged treats to school to share with classmates. In order to address any known allergy concerns, a label listing ingredients should be affixed to the package. Due to allergies and other food intolerances, please consult with your classroom teacher before the pre-packaged treats are brought to school. As a healthier alternative, Park Hill Food Service offers a variety of nutritious treats that may be purchased.
At English Landing we need your HELP! Many birthday treats arrive at the beginning of the school day which provides us time to review the class list regarding food allergies or food intolerances, however, many other birthday treats arrive during lunch and often right at the same time the treat needs to be distributed to students. PLEASE plan on arriving earlier for lunch (at least 15 minutes) to give us time to check the pre-packaged treat ingredients with the students in the classroom who have food allergies or food intolerances. Our school nurse, Mrs. Kimbrel, and office staff, Mrs. Stevens, Mrs. Wood, or Mrs. Steczak, will help with this process so when the lunchroom staff teachers distribute the treat in the cafeteria, additional steps have been taken to ensure we are protecting the health and safety of our eagles.
