From Assistant Principal Shackett
Dear RMCS Community Members,
I am thrilled to share an update about our school's recent event: The inaugural RMCS Walk to School day was a resounding success! We estimate that 125 students walked from St. John Vianney Church, while over 60 students gathered at the University Mall Parking lot and strolled down Market Street to reach the RMCS walking track for this past Wednesday's event.
Our Market Street walkers seamlessly merged with the rest of our student body, who were already engaged in walking laps alongside our dedicated teachers and staff. A heartfelt thank you goes out to our RMCS staff members who accompanied our students from these two off-site locations.
Additionally, we extend our deep appreciation to the members of the Safe Routes to School Committee: Nic Anderson, Tom Steussy, Ryan Doyle, Bonnie Hooper (Local Motion), and Amanda Holland. We'd also like to recognize Corporal Brianne Williamson from the SBPD, the exceptional RMCS staff, the more than 20 PTO volunteers, and all the parents and caregivers who supported this event.
Looking ahead, we eagerly anticipate participating in more "Safe Routes to School" initiatives through our ongoing partnership with Local Motion Vermont throughout the school year. Please stay tuned for updates on our next steps in educating all of our students on safe walking and biking practices."
Best regards,
Mr. Shackett
We got Slammed!
SLAM (Student Lead Advisory Meeting) Groups from SBHS spent time with us on Wednesday!
9th graders from SBHS joined us for the SLAM Community Service day on Wednesday. Their service included helping teachers with various tasks in their classrooms. Thank you to high school art teacher Mrs. Divoll Painter, the 9th grade advisory students, and 3 senior leaders for your service! Most of the participants were former RMCS students, and it was so nice to have them back on campus.

South Burlington School District’s school-based mentoring program— SB Mentoring— is recruiting volunteer mentors for the 2023-24 school year!

Sound like something you’d like to be a part of? We have dedicated mentoring spaces filled with games, arts & crafts, books, cooking ideas and a whole lot more. Come spend an hour shooting hoops or playing chess; enjoy making crafts or building Legos, reading, playing cards or just connecting over lunch with a student! All offer wonderful opportunities to make a meaningful connection with a young person.
