- There was a hashtag going around
- It was #blacklivesmatter
The Famous Hashtag
It became very popular after 18-year old Michael Brown was killed in Ferguson, Missouri by a white police officer.
Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman
Trayvon was a 17- year old teen that was shot dead by the then 28-year old George Zimmerman. Many marches were started in which citizens walked around with a hoodie on their head and skittles in one hand with an iced tea in the other. George Zimmerman was found not guilty for second degree murder which brought lots of attention throughout the country. George Zimmerman was then later found guilty.
Michael Brown
The death of Michael Brown is what made the hashtag so popular on Social Media. He was shot dead by white police officers. People claim they saw him with his hands up in surrender before he was shot. The autopsy later found out that Michael Brown had been shot 6 times in which two of them were in the head. His body had been lying in the street for more than 4 hours after the shooting took place.
