Escape My Mind
Alex
Victoria walked quickly out of the large school house, eager to get moving after a day of sitting around in school. She was heading straight to the training rooms. Most kids figured they would start training a year or two before they were dropped in the woods, but Victoria wanted to start now. It was fun, and also one of the only times she had privacy. Victoria walked through the heavy dark wood doors, and entered the main training hall. All sorts of weapons hung on the walls from maces, to spears, to crossbows, to shields. Large windows lined the tops of the walls, allowing rays of light to illuminate the large interior and many bundles of sticks hanging from the ceiling. There were also heavy slate blinds that could plunge the room into darkness if necessary. She walked over to the wall where all the weapons were displayed. She imagined each one of them in her hands. Closing her eyes, Victoria lost herself into a fantasy world. Deep in the forest she was surrounded by corrupted wolves. She held a spear, jabbing at the slowly advancing wolves, trying to keep them at bay while she frantically tried to come up with a plan. Her back pressed against a massive tree, Victoria knew she was out of time. She hurled her spear at the nearest wolf, a massive beast with graying hair, and claws and teeth bloated by the maddening plague affecting the forest. Maces and swords appeared in her hands, as she fought her way through the wolves. Victoria ducked, and spun, humming the far away half memory of an ancient long forgotten melody. Victoria timed her movements to the tempo of her song, and she lost herself in her training. A few minutes later, she opened her eyes as she executed a vicious arc with a long bladed spear, and the wolves dissipated into the air as the final bundle of wooden sticks was sheared in half. It was beautiful, but in a way very few people would understand.
