Classroom News!
This week we explored the different aspects of city life. We read a book called "City Rhythms" by Ann Galfaconi. The story was about the sounds of the city. We also talked about jazz music. We then had a very quiet time, only hearing the sounds of jazz music as we set about using collage materials to create beautiful nighttime cityscapes complete with starry nights filled with silver and gold stars.
Thank you to Courtney Moseman, former architect, for visiting our classroom. The children learned about blueprints, plans and elevations. They also found out that architects get so busy and involved in their work that they often work through the night! As a result they bring and keep a toothbrush with them at all times!
With dancing, stories and cake we celebrated Cinco De Mayo in style! Gracias to Mr. Luna for dancing with us and reading to us in Spanish.
Conversation Starters
* What does an architect do? What does a builder do?
* Can you sing a jazz tune that has the word "bananas" in it?
* What are the four things in the "stuck in my shoe" song?
Fun Things To Do At Home
* Read the poem of the week.
* Take a walk around your neighborhood and notice the architecture and designs of the structures nearby.
Poem of the Week
Wake Up!
In the country
Everyone knows
It's morning when
The rooster crows.
But the city's
A different matter!
You're sure to hear
Garbage cans clatter.
Taxis toot.
Buses roar.
A paper slap
Against your door
Country or city,
Morning sounds say,
Wake up! Here comes
Another day!
