Here’s a Closer Look at How Spring ISD Records and Communicates COVID-19 Cases
Since the start of the school year, we’ve been tracking COVID-19 cases in Spring ISD among students and staff, and notifying our school community about relevant cases specific to their campus or building.
When students and staff are on break or there’s an extended period of time when no one has been in our buildings, like during the recent winter storm, we often just update our dashboard at www.springisd.org/covidtracker, rather than send out communiques. Here’s a look at how we make those decisions:
Primarily, we look at the date the student or staff member was last on campus. If it’s more than 10 days ago, chances are we’ll only update the dashboard, rather than send out a communication. Of course, our Office of Emergency Management & School Safety always notifies anyone who may be a close contact if they determine there is a need to do so.
Remember, our communiques are intended to help families and staff stay informed about cases so they have a line of sight on COVID-19 activity in their school or building. But when cases no longer pose a transmission risk, the district may opt to just record the case on the dashboard. That’s why after some breaks and holidays, you will see a spike on the dashboard. Often, we’re catching up with cases that happened before or during the time off from school.
The district is always seeking to be as transparent as possible without causing undue alarm. We hope this explanation gives you some more insight into how these decisions are made.
Deadline to Participate in Spring ISD Equity Study Extended through March 5, 2021
We’re extending the deadline to participate in the Spring ISD Equity Study through March 5. We know many families have had a lot going on with power and water issues and we want to ensure everyone has the opportunity to take part in this important questionnaire.
Parents should check their email/text messages for an invitation and survey link, or go to www.springisd.org/equitystudy to participate. Your feedback will help us create a learning environment where excellent, equitable outcomes are possible for all students, so thank you for taking the time to participate.
All responses are strictly confidential. The district’s independent partner, Cambridge Education, is administering the survey and compiling the results. Final reports will only include overall findings, not individual responses.
