The TIGER Times
Together We Will Learn, Excel, and Succeed
October 23rd Edition
Dear Lewistown Families,
This week we celebrate our first round of Lewistown Tiger's Positive Behavior Referrals! Students were recognized for their virtual Virtual ROARING BEHAVIORS!
- Respect ourselves, others and property
- Own our actions and our words
- Attend school every day
- Show Responsibility for our learning
Teachers nominate students that show these characteristics in their virtual learning environment. We are so proud their hard work and having pride in their learning!
Congratulations to our ROARING Lewistown Tigers!

Lewistown Elementary School Celebrates our Kind Kids!
LES Kind Kids:
We have started a virtual Kindness Board here at LES. It is such a pleasure to see all of the kind students that are being nominated for showing kindness to others. Each month students will be recognized on morning announcements if they are nominated, so be sure to tune in! So far, for the month of October, we have had the following students nominated:
Carlos O. from Ms. Carbaugh’s class
Barry R. and Eli N. from Ms. Skowronski’s class
Kayla S. from Ms. Gwinn’s class
Kadance W. from Ms. Jozwiak’s class
Look for more next week!
LES Virtual Support Calming Room
A Calming Space
Having strategies on hand in advance to implement when things get tough and/or frustrating is so important! I created this virtual calming room as a tool to help our kids find their calm and/or take a minute during the day when they need it. It’s a virtual place to go to regroup. This calming room includes everything from live animal cams (the baby panda at the national zoo is sooo cute!) to games, music, and breathing exercises. Consider this as a possible tool to use at home and/or even as an inspiration/springboard for creating a virtual or real calming space customized for you and your family in your home.
Kindly,
Mrs. Hanlon

Book Exchange at LES
Book Exchange will happen on B weeks only. Students/families will be putting books on hold/reserving books for pickup. The deadline will be 10AM on Monday. I will fill those orders, and families will pick up during advertised windows of time on Wednesday. Pickup will be at the outside Media Center door. Students will not be coming in to browse.
Pickup times on those designated Wednesdays are 9-11:30am and 1-4pm
How will Book Exchange work?
Students will use the LES Library Media Center catalog to place books on hold. Then, following the Book Exchange Schedule, families will pick up their bagged/bundled books from the light blue, outside media center door.
How does our family get started?
Step 1: Read the LES Book Exchange Guidelines and Pickup Schedule for details.
Step 2: Complete this quick Parent Permission for Distance Learning Book Exchange Form.
Step 3: Your child may begin placing books on hold!
Watch the How-To Video to learn how to search for books, and place books on hold, or follow these written instructions. Students will also receive guided instruction on searching for books and placing holds during a library lesson.
Media Schedule Change
Media will now be on a rotating Week A/Week B Schedule.
During Week A, students will attend their Google Meet with Mrs. Byard for their synchronous library lesson.
During Week B, students will access asynchronous library lesson activities in Schoology, during their regularly scheduled media time. Everything the students need for their asynchronous lessons will be in the orange folder in Schoology.
Please contact Dana Byard through Schoology, or by email at dana.byard@fcps.org with any questions.
