The Discovery News
January 2016
From Mrs. Bates
Dear Discovery Ridge Family,
Happy 2016! I would like to kick-off this special time of new beginnings with a welcome to our ten new DRE families that are joining us! We are excited that you are joining our caring school community.
For me, this is also a time for me of reflection and gratitude. First, I would like to thank each Star for their commitment to being respectful, responsible, and caring every day. Their attendance, grades, and Rock Star behavior are to be celebrated!
Likewise, I would like to thank the staff with whom I have the honor to work with each day. Those who work with your children are dedicated to building caring relationships with them and implementing strategies that lead to their success.
I would also like to thank our parents and school community. Your support and involvement are amazing, and you are dedicated to excellence in educating your children. We had hundreds of guests at events such as Discovery Days, parent-teacher conferences, Veterans Day, our parties, Breakfast with Santa, and the holiday performance. Your generosity during the canned food drive and holiday assistance are greatly appreciated. Thank you for your support at home and involvement at school.
I wish you a very happy New Year!

Holiday Performance
To share these talents with the school the students did another performance on December 18th for the entire school body to see. This was also a time where K-3 students could listen to and see what being in choir would be like. Mrs. Ragusky is our choir sponsor. Students can participate in choir when they are in 4th and 5th grade.
Expectations Review
After returning from winter break, students will complete and review our "space mission". During this space mission classes will travel on a scavenger hunt around DRE (and FMS for 5th grade) to visit all of the key places throughout the school. At each key place students and teachers will review the expectation for being respectful, responsible, and caring. This simple review increases instructional time and creates a consistent language of expectations for our stars.
