November 5, 2018

Dear Davis Hill Community,

Despite the dreary and wet weather... our DHDragons are doing an amazing job as we head into the second quarter. Good luck to all the families scrambling to rearrange schedules for events/ sports due to the weather.

Jay C. Norton, Principal

*Don't forget to read through the entire update... there are always more dates in the Upcoming Events Section. If you have any questions/ concerns- please don't hesitate to contact me/ the office.

Cold Weather/ Clothes Labeling

Please remember that we try to get the kids out for recess every day when the temperature is 20 degrees or above (We factor in wind chill and other safety precautions as well). This is true also if there is a slight drizzle/ mist. Please ensure that students are properly attired for the weather conditions.

In addition, we have a Lost and Found that fills up very quickly. We have a number of items that go unclaimed. Please make sure to label items whenever possible. This includes jackets/ sweatshirts/ water bottles/ lunch boxes/ hats/ gloves/ etc. Items that are labeled have a much greater percentage of being returned than those that are not.

Thank you!

Food Pantry Donation Day- Wednesday, November 7th

We are excited to continue our Davis Hill tradition of supporting the Wachusett Food Pantry and helping our neighbors who might need an extra bag or two of groceries to get by. Your monthly generosity makes a HUGE difference! Davis Hill is one of the largest contributors to our local food pantry (see www.wachusettfoodpantry.org for more information)! The 'suggestions' on this list are JUST THAT-- suggestions. We will happily take any non-perishable, non-expired items. Collections are held the first Wednesday of each month from 8:45-9 am. (A bin will be left in the lobby for afternoon Kindergarten students and will remain in the lobby until Thursday for students who many have forgotten their donations that day).

November Theme: Inside Out/Backwards Day

November Suggestion: Turkey time: Instant potatoes, yams, stuffing, cranberries, gravy, pumpkin.

*Dressing up is optional and should honor the school's dress code policy in regards to modesty and safety.

A reminder that school begins promptly at 9:00AM. Our teachers are working hard to ensure that instruction begins right at the beginning of the day. Students who are regularly late for school are missing out on this important portion of the day. It is imperative that students are in school in order to maximize their learning opportunities. While work can sometimes be made up- there is no substitute for being present in class and being a part of the lesson and instruction. Of course, it is understood that students should be kept home when they are ill or family situations necessitate being out. However, it is important that students are in school regularly. If attendance is a concern, you will receive a letter from the office requesting a meeting.

While our Veterans Day Concert is for students only, we would like to formally invite any Davis Hill Community Veterans to attend the concert as guests of honor. If you are, or know, a Davis Hill Community Veteran who would like to attend on November 9th at 9:20, please email me directly at jay_norton@wrsd.net.

For students in Grades 3-5... Report Cards will be available on the PowerSchool Parent Portal after 4:00PM on Friday, November 9th.

Thank you to everyone who completed the Meet 'N Greet Survey earlier this year. I have attached a link to the results HERE. The information provided via the survey will be more thoroughly reviewed by our administrative team, staff and SIMCO in the late winter/ spring to support planning for next year.
