EHS Girls Golf
Girls Golf - Coach DeVoe
EHS Girls Golf practice began three weeks ago and they have been learning how to play the game of golf with the USGA Rules of Golf in place. The team consists of four seniors Rebekah Brown, Cambry Fox, Haylee Moorman, and Bryce Prawl. There are three juniors out this year Katy Pope, Campbell McNorton, and Taylor Hadl. The team is rounded out with sophomore Brooklyn Thorne and freshman Joellen Vogt, Olivia Lawhorn. The managers this year are Simeon and Caleb Chrislip.
The EHS Girls Golf Team started the 2020-2021 season off with a practice tournament against DeSoto High School at Twin Oaks Golf Complex playing the Par 3 course. The six starters for the kick-off tournament were Rebekah Brown, Cambry Fox, Haylee Moorman, and Bryce Prawl, Katy Pope, and Joellen Vogt.
The low scorer for the EHS team was Joellen Vogt who shot a 34 and Haylee Moorman was second shooting a score of 38. The team score for EHS was 250 and the DeSoto finished with a 260. A great showing for a first-year team and we look forward to improving the scores as the season progresses!
Varsity Football - Coach Hayden
The Eudora Cardinal football team started the 2020 football season with a 35-6 win at Baldwin. This is the first time that Eudora has started out the football season 1-0 since this senior class was in 8th grade.
The Cards started out the game on offense and had a nice 13 play drive that ended with a turnover on downs. The offense then found its rhythm and scored on 4 of its next 5 drives. The offense line was great all night for the Cardinals led by seniors Darrell Higgins, Zak VanDiest, Travis Bohnenblust, Trevor Bohnenblust, and junior Tyler Neis. This experienced offensive line paved the way for the Cards to rush for 367 yards and 2 TDs. The leading rusher of the game was junior Brayden Beerbower with 144 yards on the ground and 1 TD. Junior Silas Etter contributed 84 rushing yards to go with 1 receiving touchdown. Senior Cael Lynch added 64 yards on the ground and also had 1 receiving touchdown. Sophomore Octavius Lyles added 50 hard-earned yards on the ground. Senior quarterback Zeke Reazin had an efficient game for the Cardinals, going 4 out of 5 passing for 3 touchdowns. He also added one rushing touchdown.
Defensively, the Cardinals were great all night, holding Baldwin to only 79 total yards, with 30 of those yards coming from 1 play. Senior safety Matt Evans made an excellent effort play by tracking down the Baldwin ballcarrier and tackling him inside the 5. The defense then held Baldwin without any points on that drive. Baldwin tried throwing the ball 18 times, completing only 4 of these passes. The cardinal defense broke up 11 of the 18 passes thrown before they could get to the receiver. The Cardinal secondary also intercepted the ball 3 times, with senior Gavin Hobson, Octavius Lyles, and Brayden Beerbower all getting an interception. The defense tallied 11 tackles for a loss on the night to bring Baldwin’s rushing total to only 31 total yards on 31 carries, an average of only 1 yard per carry. Outside linebackers Silas Etter and sophomore Jaden Hamm were menacing for the Baldwin offensive line all night long, each getting 2 TFL’s and disrupting the passing game. The cards were led in tackles by Cael Lynch with 10, sophomore Kale Hammerschmidt with 9, and senior Will Schreiner with 9.
The Cardinals host Nemaha Central on Friday, September 11th for their home opener. Nemaha is the returning 2A state champion and should be a solid opponent. The Cards are looking forward to getting better every day and competing with anyone they play.
Varsity Soccer - Coach Erpelding
The EHS varsity soccer team hosted Maur Hill last Tuesday. The team started out pretty slow not sure if it was nerves or exactly what it was, but the boys finally settled down after the first 10 minutes of the match. We got our scoring campaign opened when senior Daniel Grosdidier played a great ball into an oncoming senior Jace McCormick that put the cross away for the first goal of the season. After that goal, we took off. Jace scored goal number two when he put pressure on their backline and got a fortunate bounce and the ball ended up at his feet. Jace then took a touch and calmly slotted the ball into the back of the net. Goal number 3 came from a ball over top from senior Aron Kooken and senior Keaton Harron ran it down. Keaton was able to get in behind the defense with his first touch and put the shot away. Goal 4 came from a great ball from senior Kale Breedlove to Keaton Herron. Keaton was again able to beat the defense and tuck the ball away. Goal 5 started with Alex Kooken. Alex played a great ball through to Keaton. Keaton drove to the end-line and Daniel saw an opening and made a great run from his right-back spot. Daniel was wide open in front of the net and Keaton found him and Daniel scored. This was Daniel's first career Varsity goal. Goal 6 Came from Jace as he fired a shot through the keepers' hands and legs and this completed Jace's hat trick. Goal 7 came from Keaton and this completed his hat trick. Goal 8 came by way of senior Colby Lawhorn. The shutout was posted by the defense, and goalkeepers seniorDevon Moncrief, Brenton Ormsby, and Cooper Smith.
Overall it was a good night and we did a lot of good things. But we have a very long way to go if we want to accomplish all of our goals this season.
EHS is on the road this week traveling tonight to Topeka Hayden, 4:00pm start with varsity playing first. Then on Thursday, they start Frontier League play at Spring Hill, 4:03pm, JV followed by varsity. On Saturday the Cardinals will host Atchison, 3:00pm JV followed by varsity.
The shutout was posted by the defense, Devon, Brenton, and Cooper
