Minnewaska Memo
Minnewaska Area Elementary and Intermediate News
This Week
I'm not even sure how to start my message this week. As I reflect on last week, I think I was running around with my hair on fire, finding as much caffeine as possible to survive while making about 100 decisions/hour that affect our staff and kids. I also realize this is it, something major in our lives that will define our generations. Something major we are called to find our way to support and be helpers. Helping right now comes in so many forms. Yes, educating our kids is one, but being there, being a face they know, being someone they already trust, being someone who can calm the waters and provide stability. Friends, for the next few weeks our jobs are more important than ever. We need to continue to be the helpers, they are counting on you!
Getting Started
As you prepare for next week, this is a whole new experience for all of us. Let's think about how we start our school year. You work to build relationships, help all students feel comfortable and share expectations. Although the building has changed, the model of delivery has changed, being a teacher hasn't totally changed. As you move through the week, you'll pick up where you left off, but for just a little bit, allow yourself to start a new classroom with some familiar faces. And grant yourself, families and colleagues some grace. We may be masters of education, but we're not masters of distance learning...YET! :)
As I began my work this morning, I found this video sharing some important lessons from someone who has has some experience in distance learning. This is from a teacher at Pine Island High School in MN. Yes, some of the content makes more sense for our oldest students, but there are some important thoughts for us as well.
The Wave
I have an update ready for families, but will be holding it until tomorrow morning. More to come.
