This Week in Language Arts:
For the days that remain before the EOG testing weeks we will be reinforcing our standards, and presenting the students with multiple practice pieces. Part of our focus is helping students to understand that the time constraints involved play a key role in their success. Most of the tasks we will practice this week will have a timed component, as well as a time to review and discuss their answer choices.
In my Google Classroom, I have included a StudyStack of key vocabulary that will help many students brush up on the terms they should be familiar with, as well as copies of the test prep questions and explanations of scoring etc. Please take some time to look these over with your child.
Last week students had the opportunity to go to the library to check out Independent Choice Books. This quarter they will be asked to complete a "Triple Play"! Three books of their choice: one must fall in the upper end of their personal Lexile range, one should be STEM related, and the last is completely their choice. These must be completed between March 22-May 3rd to be eligible to enter in a special drawing. Prizes include Visa cards, Book Fair gift certificates, and more. Hope to see everyone be a part of this! Their 1st book should be completed by the week we return from break.
We are in our third week of Tween Tribune, and most everyone is on board this time. Students have until 3 pm on Friday to complete their required articles and earn their 15 points. Please encourage this, or any of the other reading/ writing options available to them over SPRING BREAK. Students who READ SUCCEED!
Science- Mrs. Madera
Physical Science
Last week we finished up our Forces and Motion Unit. Students took their Mastery Assessment on Friday, 3/23. Students will be receiving their score report this week. Any missed standards will have to be remediated and retested on in order to earn Mastery and improve their grade.
This week we will begin our last unit on Electricity and Magnetism. Students will be explaining how fields exert forces on each other even without contact. Students will be taking notes and creating a foldable in class. There will be quizizz links to review the vocabulary and a USA Test Prep assignment due at the end of the week.
Sports Voice Over Project: This project is due on Friday 4/13. Students can earn 10 points extra credit if the project is completed and turned in on or before Thursday, 3/29.
Please check google classroom for additional practice links and simulations. Review notes and vocabulary each night.

Social Studies- Mrs. Bense
Today students started working on the Post World War II Unit. This unit is very short, so we will be moving quickly into the Civil Rights Unit. Students should be reviewing their graphic organizers and completing any work not finished in class for homework.
New South Mastery Assessment remediation will be assigned through USA Test Prep individually to each student based off of what standards they need to work on.
Mr. Frazier
This week, Team 8-2 Mathematics will begin Unit 7: Systems of Equations. Over this course of study, students will learn to solve systems of equations graphically and algebraically (substitution and elimination). Initially, students will only solve the systems graphically. That is, they will be given two linear equations (a system), graph each equation and determine the solution by identifying where the two graphs intersect in the coordinate plane. It is important that the students understand that it’s possible for a system to have exactly one solution(intersect), no solution (parallel) or infinite (same line) solutions.
Today, we reviewed for Master Assessment #6. On Tuesday of this week, we will the Master Assessment. This Master Assessment covers six standards that include frequency tables, relative frequency tables, scatter plots, trend lines and equations of lines. Once we return from the break, we will immediately begin reviewing for the End of Grade Test, which will take place the week of 16 April. Please ensure your students are preparing on their own and using the resources on Google Classrooms.
