5th Grade Band Notes

December 3, 2014

Our big day is almost here!

The fifth grade band will present their first concert very soon on Wednesday, December 17th at 6:30 p.m. in the Schiesher Elementary Large Gym! Students should plan to arrive in the small gym/cafeteria at 6:30 pm.

Band students are asked to wear “dress clothes” for the performance. Try to avoid jeans, sweats, and gym shoes. Seasonal colors are encouraged! Students can certainly wear Santa hats or other similar fun attire if they wish.

In addition to our evening concert, we will be playing a short program for the school the morning of the 17th at 9 AM. All students must bring their instruments and folding music stands to school with them on the 17th. Please make sure that your child’s name is clearly marked on their music stand so it does not get taken by another student!

When the evening concert is over, we will have an unofficial ice-cream party at McDonalds. I am inviting any students who feel like celebrating to head to McDonalds and enjoy an ice cream on me. I am extremely proud of every student in band and this is the least I can do to say thank you to them for all their hard work the last 3 months.

Agenda for the concert night

6:00 PM- Students are to arrive in the small gym dressed and ready to go.

6:15 PM- Warm-up in small gym (chorus students will set up their instrument, give it to a friend to carry for them, and head down to the chorus room at this time)

From the holiday packet- Jolly Old St. Nicholas, Up on the Housetop, Jingle Bells

From their sheet music handouts- Angels on Parade (yellow piece of paper)

Videos to Practice Along With

I have recorded videos of myself playing our concert songs on my trumpet. Please encourage your child to watch these videos and practice along with them. Hopefully these videos can help them learn any songs that they might be struggling with. Please click the button below to access these practice videos.

Extra Help Outside of School

I would be happy to set up a time before or after school to have an extra practice session with your son or daughter. Please contact me to set-up a time.
