NORTH NEWS February 23rd

Where tradition began, excellence continues.

Message from Principal David Ewers

Hello North Community,

The past week has definitely been interesting. I hope the snow days treated everyone well, and that your student is ready to get back to school. I must say we are super excited to get the students back in the building and have some structure for a few weeks before the end of the 3rd quarter. Please help us by reminding your student to continue to work on missing assignments, even when we are not in school. Every little bit helps! Thank you for your support, and Go Bison!

Calling All Angels!

Each year, we have been blessed enough to have generous folks who come forward to sponsor a Shawnee Mission North yearbook for a child who otherwise wouldn't be getting one.

In the last few weeks, I've had children approach me about how to get a Shawnee Mission North yearbook when they can't afford to get one.

It's for this very purpose that our Shawnee Mission North Yearbook Angel program exists. You can purchase a 2022 yearbook and we will get it into the hands of a deserving student.

To become a yearbook angel simply:

1) Go Online at www.yearbookforever.com

2) For Yearbook Angel sponsorships, enter “Yearbook” for student first name, “Angel” for last name, and “Staff” for grade. We will make sure it goes to a deserving student.

If you have any questions, please contact yearbook adviser Becky Tate at notate@smsd.org

REQUIRED VACCINATIONS

Thank you to all parents who have turned in updated vaccination records for our SMN students!

We still have quite a few students who are missing at least one vaccine.

Please help us out in the nurse’s office and send any updated vaccine records to valsnow@smsd.org .

Our next exclusion date for SMSD is coming up quickly in January.

PLEASE, if you’ve been emailed or contact by phone about a missing vaccine, try to get that done as soon as possible.

Our Johnson County Health Department is a good resource for updating vaccines, as is Walgreens, CVS, Mercy and Truth Clinics.

Vaccines can also be obtained at our Health Partnership Clinic at SMW on Thursdays during clinic hours from 11am to 3pm

If you need help contacting any of these businesses, please call us at 913-993-6907 or 913-993-6916.

Stay warm and healthy everyone!!

And, as always, thank you for sharing your amazing children with us!!

Nurse Kelly and Ms. Snow.

Jonathan Guild swam the 100 Backstroke and finished with a sub-one minute time. Zak Kohoutek competed in two events, and in his 200 IM, just missed making the Top 16 by 3 tenths of a second. Jack Nely swam the 100 Backstroke and missed the Top 16 by a mere .17 seconds. Great race for him as he set a personal record. Congrats to the 6 who competed in finals on Saturday! Student Recognitions

NJROTC

NJROTC participated in an Inter-Service Drill Meet this past Saturday in Omaha, NE (Bellevue West High School). Competing in a 19 team field with schools coming from Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri and Kansas the Bison finished 3rd Overall. It was our first setback of the year and moved the kids record to 52-2 on the season. This was a great test for the kids prior to the Navy National competition in April. They were the only Navy school present in a competition which was full of Army and Air Force teams with Army and Air Force judges. They were edged out by a tough army team from Leavenworth, KS and an Air Force team - Abraham Lincoln out of Council Bluff, IA. We did however finish 1st in the Overall Regulation Drill Events and 3rd In Exhibition Drill Events. Here is how we finished in the competition:

1st Place – Overall Regulation Drill

1st Place – Unarmed Regulation Drill (Sabrina Dubois commanded)

1st Place – Regulation Color Guard (Jalen Juan commanded)

1st Place – New Cadet Drill (John Long commanded) – the New Cadet Team went undefeated this season (their season is now over)

2nd Place – Armed Regulation Drill (Sabrina Dubois commanded)

2nd Place – Exhibition Color Guard (Owen Dooley commanded)

3rd Place – Overall Exhibition Drill

3rd Place – Unarmed Exhibition Drill (Jade Morales-Gomez commanded)

4th Place – Armed Exhibition Drill (only event we finished out of the top 3)

Next up for the kids will be a scrimmage for the Navy Nationals on Saturday, March 5th and then we will travel to Pensacola, FL at the end of March for the Navy National Championship
