A Word From Whittle
Week 1 of 2018-2019 is in the books and it was FANTASTIC!! Thank you for making it a great week for our kids.
My communication plan for the year is to send out the weekly emails with dates and reminders. I'll send out monthly newsletters that will focus on bigger upcoming events and professional learning.

Academic RtI
The only procedure we've revised on the academic side is the addition of the Tier I Data Tracking Form.
Jennifer, Stephanie, and Amy are your contact people for academic RtI.
Tier 1
Teacher collects data on academic weaknesses and interventions on the Tier 1 Data Tracking Form
If Tier 1 interventions are not effective, teacher refers student to Campus Behavior RtI Committee.
Tier II
- We will make a plan in the RtI meeting.
- If the implemented plan does not show improvement, a SIT team meeting is scheduled. This meeting will include parents.
Tier III
- Students that are currently in this Tier are served in intervention.
Behavior RtI
As we implement revised procedures to our RtI processes, it will be important to remember that there will be bumps in the road. But we are not going to "continue to do what we've always done" because we don't want the same results. We want our kids to make growth and extinguish behaviors.
Donese, Clayton, and Amy are your contact people for these revised processes.
Tier 1
Teacher collects data on frequent disruptive behavior using Tier 1 Data Tracking Form
Severe behaviors are referred to the office (See Classroom vs. Office behavior chart in the HJH Handbook).
If severe behaviors repeat, data collection begins in classroom just like it would for more minor behaviors.
If Tier 1 interventions are not effective, teacher refers student to Campus Behavior RtI Committee.
Tier II
- We will make a plan in the RtI meeting.
- If the implemented plan does not show improvement, a SIT team meeting is scheduled. This meeting will include parents.
Tier III
- Students that are currently in this Tier are served in our redirection program.
Redirection
- Only students that are identified through the RtI/SIT process, or through 504/SpEd process are served.
- No teacher may send a student to the redirection room unless they have been given passes to do so.
Big Ideas from Behavior Training
Looking for 90% of students, 90% of the time.
Simple Solutions:
- Proximity & Supervision
- Don't depend on "role bound" authority (admin, coaches)
- Don't get emotional
- Cue and Pre Correct the behavior...have systems
- Have 1 attention getter and teach it to mastery
- Work in the power zone; can't discipline from the desk
HJH Golden "H" Award
Laura is a true example of a child advocate. She goes out of her way to make things better for the children she serves in speech and all the students at HJH. She is always positive and seeks to help others in her every endeavor. She is always willing to lend a helping hand and seeks to make life easier for others.
Thank you to Laura for making HJH a brighter place!
Subs
- Absences go in Skyward first. Remember to select Angie Williams to receive that information.
- Leaving Campus - Our procedure this year for class coverage is to fill out the coverage form at least 5 days in advance. This is only for 1 period and is never during Common Planning.
- Personal days will be denied if not made 5 days prior to the intended absence.
- Only 5% of any population can take a personal day on any given day (5% of teachers, 5% of paras, etc.). First come, first served.

T-TESS
- Log in to DMAC and go to the T-TESS section
- Complete the "GSPD Plan, Part I" (will turn green when completed)
- Your administrator will sign off on your goals by September 14th.
- Student Progress: Be thinking of how you will track the progress of your students this year.
- Core Teachers: You will use the system we designed last year. Stephanie is working on that document for you. All you will have to do is input your data.
- All Others: You will need to determine what is important to track in your classes. (Example: PE can use the Fitness Gram pre/post test, Athletics can time them running a mile in September and April, Art can keep a portfolio, CTE can use Edutyping pre/post test, etc.). Keep it simple and keep it manageable.
Formal walkthroughs will begin September 24th.
Fundamental 5 Power Walks
- Framing the Lesson,
- Working in the Power Zone, and
- Frequent, Small-Group, Purposeful Talk About the Learning.
Need More Info?
As you're getting to know your students you might be wondering about their previous school experiences. Follow these steps to gain additional insights on your students:
- Under "Student Plans," select "Student Portfolio"
- Search for the student and click on the magnifying glass icon.
- Over to the left under "Notes," select "All".
- This will pull up any note that HISD personnel has ever entered.
- This section will also show you charts for previous STAAR, TELPAS, and local assessments.
HJH Family Night

Hallsville City Park
Last year was a HUGE success! So many families came to support their student. It was an awesome opportunity for us to build relationships outside the school day.

- HISD Grading Policy
- Draft HJH Late Work Policy - This will be approved once your teams have checked it out and we can all be committed to it.
- Cloning grades in your teams (if you have one) and adding grades within 48 hours of the assessment.
- Naming grades in the gradebook by skill and not by project title, page number, etc.
- Grades are skill based...not for behavior.
