Fall 2020 Senior Parent Newsletter

Updates and Info from the RBHS Counseling Department

Dear Senior Parents/Guardians,

Fall is a busy season for our Seniors as they simultaneously get settled into their last year of high school and start planning for their future after Rock Bridge. This newsletter will provide you important information to help you support your Senior as they embark on this exciting journey!

Using Scoir

Scoir is a college planning platform that we have been using for several years. Through Scoir students can search for colleges that fit their preferences, sign-up for a time to meet with reps and recruiters visiting Rock Bridge (this semester all "visits" will be held virtually), and request their transcripts. You can also set up a parent account through Scoir! Your parent account will allow you to search colleges and send recommendations to your student, and get an estimate of your net price for colleges of interest.

The links below will take you to specific instructions and tutorials for help accessing the Scoir site.

College Rep Visits

We currently have 17 colleges/universities (with more being added every week) who have scheduled virtual visits to meet with Rock Bridge students on Wednesdays this fall! Students can login to Scoir to see which schools are "coming to" Rock Bridge and to sign-up to attend visits with schools of interest!

Tomorrow (Wed., Sept. 30th) we have:

University of Missouri from 10:00 - 11:00 AM

Stephens College from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Southeast Missouri State University (SEMO) from 1:00 - 1:45 PM

Wed., Oct. 7th we have:

Oberlin College from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM

William Woods from 1:00 - 1:45 PM

Please encourage your student to login to Scoir, check out the full list of visit opportunities, and sign-up to meet with reps! It's the best way for students to get "insider information" about schools of interest.

The Counseling Department has created a series of video lessons to help students with their post-secondary planning. Those videos are available on the Counseling Senior Information webpage (http://www.cpsk12.org/rbhsseniors), as well as in the Class of 2021 group in Schoology. Lesson topics include: Finding Your Fit, Alternatives to College, The College Application Process and Timeline, Types of Financial Aid, the FAFSA, Where to Find Scholarships, and more!

Starting this Wednesday, Sept. 30th, counselors will be hosting small group post-secondary planning Q&A meetings through Zoom. Meeting date and time information for each counselor can be found below. We encourage you and your student to view the lessons relevant to their post-secondary plans, and then use the link to meet with *their counselor at one of the times provided in the next two weeks.

* Students are assigned to a counselor by last name. See alpha information next to each counselor's name to determine your student's counselor.
