The Knights Roundtable
Dear Families
The Knights Roundtable is the Diversity, Equity, and Unity newsletter created for DJO students, family, and community. Each month will center around a theme. The initiative on Diversity, Equity, and Unity is key to the ability of Bishop O'Connell to fulfill its mission and to have a positive effect on society. This fact has been evident in the past year as our nation has faced a series of incidents, tragedies, and challenges that have had a profound effect on us. As we struggled to learn, to lament, to heal, ask hard questions, and acquire wisdom, we came together as students, alumni, parents, faculty, and administration in efforts to implement change. Sit back, grab a snack, and enjoy reading about current events, student stories, and how to be involved in making O'Connell a place that all students feel proud to say, we are family. GO, KNIGHTS!
Alumni Dinner
It is with great pleasure that we have rescheduled the DEU Alumni Night to Saturday, May 21st. Come join us, as the theme is A Knight Abroad! This event is open to all DJO Alumni and the DJO School Community. More information will be provided soon. If you have any questions please email Mrs. Davis at bdavis@bishopoconnell.org.
Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month
In March, the United States celebrates Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. As this was declared in 1987 by President Ronald Reagan, this focuses on increasing the awareness of those with disabilities. Although ascertainable disabilities are diagnosed when children are young, this mainly affects their speech, learning, and behavior. But that does not stop them from achieving their goals and dreams. Today, there are more resources to help others, and awareness has been increased across the globe!
Heritage Day
The DEU is pleased to announce that it will organize a Heritage Day next month. This day will be held at the school on Friday, April 1, and members of the DEU will host it throughout the day. As we celebrate our history and embrace it in our community, students are asked to dress in their cultural attire. More information will be shared via morning announcements and flyers around the school.

We would like to express our gratitude to everyone who attended the retreat! The DEU Retreat was a huge success. Around twenty individuals attended Concord Retreat Center and spent three days drawing closer to God and discussing our spiritual gifts in depth. Thank you!
