Winter Guard Advances to Semi-State
The Scottsburg Varsity Winter Guard traveled to Mt. Vernon High School in Fortville, IN this past Saturday to compete in the State Prelims round in Class A for the Indiana High School Color Guard Association. Scottsburg went up against several of the state’s top groups in the class and held their ground by finishing in 4th place in their round and earning a score that ranked them 5th in the entire class at the site. With the score, placing, and performance, Scottsburg was named a State Semi-Finalist! After scores from the other site came in, Scottsburg will go into the State Semi-Finals tomorrow ranked 9th in Class A altogether. Should they finish in the top 16 tomorrow, the winter guard will qualify for State Finals.
Congratulations to the students and directors on being named State Semi-Finalist! Best of luck in tomorrow’s Semi-Finals!
Scottsburg Jazz Ensemble Receives Gold
The Scottsburg Jazz Ensemble traveled to Whiteland High School last Friday evening to perform and be evaluated in their Jazz performance. Scottsburg had a great performance and received a high gold rating from all three judges, resulting in a Gold Rating for their overall performance. Senior Kinley Harmon also was awarded a soloist ribbon for an outstanding trombone solo during one of the tunes. With this Gold Rating, the Scottsburg High School Band has now satisfied three of the 4 requirements for the ISSMA “All-Music” Award, which awards schools for excellence/gold ratings in Marching Band, Solo & Ensemble, Jazz, and Concert Band. Scottsburg now must get a Gold Rating in their Concert Band assessment on April 6th at Floyd Central High School.
Congratulations to the Jazz Band on their fantastic performance and another Gold Rating!
Scottsburg High School Choir Makes History
The Scottsburg High School Advanced Choir made school history this past Saturday by participating in an ISSMA Vocal Jazz event for the first time ever. The choir gave their best performance and were awarded two soloist ribbons, but unfortunately the choir came up half of a point short of a Gold rating. Regardless, the choir has made huge strides the past year and a half under the direction of Ashley Kruth by performing in this Jazz event and getting a Gold in stage performance and sight-reading at Concert Festival last Spring.
AdCap Innovation Challenge
We had 5 selected Business students attended the AdCap Innovation Challenge sponsored by United Healthcare. After brainstorming and planning during the day, they pitched a 1 minute presentation to judges from United Healthcare. SHS came away with $2000 from these pitches to implement some healthier lifestyle and nutrition choices at SHS!
Ethan Harrison and Emily Belden won a $1000 grant for their Smoothie Me Up idea.
Johnathon Perkinson won a $1000 grant to implement his Paws for Stress idea.
Sydney Moseley and Morgan Fields presented a Minds In Motion idea that we will look at alternative grant funding available to fund their idea.
Next step, approval and implementation! SHS has a lot to be proud of with these young innovative leaders!

Mrs. Walton's Room Remodel!
It’s been a crazy few weeks. Our kitchens were remodeled, we moved back in, and the students did a Food Truck Challenge in the midst of our move. I’m not quite sure what I was thinking, but I’m so proud of the hard work they completed today!!
Each group chose a food truck that they thought Scott County residents would enjoy. They designed and created their truck and prepared one food and drink item from their menu.-Mrs. Walton
