Go Tigers!

9 Principal's Corner

Happy February freshmen parents. We have lots of exciting events coming up at Waynesville High School this month!

  • End of the grading period is Thursday, February 14. It is important that your student have all assignments, tests, quizzes, etc. completed and turned in. Please log into eSchool periodically to check student progress and email teachers if you have any questions or concerns.
  • New ID cards will be issued the week of February 19. The card color is based on grades, attendance and behaviors during the 4th grading period.
  • Early dismissal day is February 15. It is also the date of the Freshmen Bash. Please read below for details.

January Student of the Month

January's character trait was ATTITUDE. This month's winners exemplify what it means to have a positive attitude.
Student of the month is determined by teacher nominations with final winners picked by guidance. All winners are pictured below.

Big picture

Nominees

(Pictured from left to right) Tyler Gayman, Benjamin Pollman, Skylar Benjamin, Cheyenne Snook, Faith Johnson, Brandy McClane, Christopher Moore, Tomiko Tommy, Taisean Shelton

Ben Pollman, Overall

Ben is a walking ray of sunshine. He can always be seen cheerful and confronts all things with a very positive attitude. His constant can-do attitude bodes well for him as a JROTC leader and team leader of the Armed Exhibition team. He is also a very positive influence on all those that are on the boys golf team. It is these traits that I feel he embodies the spirit of positive attitude at WHS and makes a perfect candidate for this month's student of the month.

--Rube Dowell

Christopher Moore, Freshman

Chris comes to class every day with a positive attitude to learn and the willingness to help others understand hard concepts. He will positively encourage other students to succeed. His positive attitude is definitely contagious within the classroom and I see his classmates feed off of his attitude towards being in class.

Freshmen Bash Postponed Due to Inclement Weather

  • Due to incoming inclement weather the Freshman Bash and Glow Dance has been rescheduled to Friday, March 1st. Due to the date being pushed back we will continue to accept permission forms for the next two weeks up to the day before the event.

Counselor's Corner

ACT Test Coming Up

There will be an ACT test offered at the high school on Tuesday, April 2. Students who are interested can sign up in the Counseling Office. The test will cost $44.50, which is slightly reduced from the normal cost. Juniors are strongly recommended to consider this opportunity. For students planning to attend college, the second semester of Junior year is a great time to take the ACT for the first time. This allows time for students to retake the test before the college admissions process begins next Fall. Higher scores can lead to a higher chance of acceptance into the desired college and may lead to more scholarship money. Students who do not sign up to take the ACT on April 2 will be expected to take the ASVAB test on that day.
