COVID UPDATE:
Students have done an amazing job this year being safe at school, including wearing masks and washing and sanitizing hands. Thank you to the families for helping and supporting with that!
You may have seen in the news talk from the CDC and the governor’s office about upcoming changes. Just a reminder that we follow Agency of Education rules, and until those change we need to keep masks on at school. If the AOE changes their rules for us then we will let you know as soon as possible.
Thank you again for all the great work and the support during this year. Enjoy the beautiful weekend!

Upcoming College Visits
We have four upcoming opportunities for this month so far:
May 13: Bennington College, 10am
May 18: Saint John Fisher College (NY), 10am
May 18: The University of Tennessee - Knoxville, 10am
May 19: U.S. Army information meeting, 12:30pm
If you're not quite ready to think about colleges or other post-secondary opportunities you could still benefit by making a connection with an admissions representative. Consider it an opportunity to see what kinds of questions they ask and what kinds of information you will need to hone an "elevator speech" you can use to let the representative know how great you are!
Celebration Time
Let's celebrate the end of this unprecedented year on a high note. We are looking to celebrate the extraordinary work and effort put forth by both students and faculty/staff. To that end, we've created two new opportunities to recognize and horn anyone who is worthy. Students, staff, and the community are welcome to nominate someone for one of the following categories.
Buzzworthy- a student who did something noteworthy that might have gone unrecognized until this point.
Hornet Hero- Faculty or Staff that has gone above and beyond this year!
If you have any questions please contact Barb Isham or Paul Adams.
Celebrating our Retiring Faculty and Staff
A group of faculty and staff members known as School Year’s Eve (SYE) have organized a number of events to celebrate our retiring community members.
Traditionally, we have celebrated a retiree with a Fan Friday. This year we will be hosting two Fan Days, Tuesday and Friday for retirees who wished to participate. Here is this years schedule:

6/1 & 6/4: Adam Weiss -Wear a shirt that celebrates a musical artist you enjoy or a type of music you enjoy.
Our first Fan Days will be this coming Tuesday and Friday celebrating Mr. Rome.

AP Courses & Dual Enrollment
We are bringing to a close our second week of AP testing for 2021. This year over 200 students have engaged in over 350 exams in 21 different AP courses. Congratulations to all of our AP students! We look forward to growing this program in upcoming years.
Additionally, EHS is one of only 2 CLEP testing sites in Vermont. The CLEP exam is another College Board exam opportunity to receive college credit.
Our AP Coordination team has been meeting to think about next year and the further development of our AP program. We value our AP courses and flexible pathways, and have been working on how we can increase opportunities such as these, and encourage students to access these rigorous, college preparatory classes.
We have an exciting development in the Dual Enrollment opportunities for Essex High School Students! We have been blessed to have four Dual Enrollment classes taught at EHS by EHS teachers for college credit (formally known as “concurrent enrollment”); AP Statistics (UVM Math credit), Advanced French Conversation and Culture (UVM Language credit), Chemistry 200 (VTC credit) and Designing Solutions for Global Challenges (UVM Engineering credit, not running at EHS 21-22 but offered again for 22-23). We are excited to announce some new offerings! Spanish V will include any student who signed up for AP Spanish, and has been approved for UVM Language credit. Students will be prepared to take the AP Exam but this is not taught as an AP course and will appear on EHS transcripts at Spanish V. Our Business Department has worked with St. Michael’s College and has been approved to offer St. Michael’s credit for our Personal Finance course which will run in spring 2022. We have one more concurrent enrollment class coming soon! Our Social Studies teachers have been working hard in joining with St. Michael’s college to offer a Social Studies class for St. Mike’s college credit and we anticipate formally announcing this class very shortly. Teachers in all these classes will provide enrolled students with information about how to register for dual enrollment vouchers and credit if they are interested. EHS students are able to take any of these classes without being used as Dual Enrollment. Each student is provided vouchers from the state of Vermont Agency of Education to take two (2) Dual Enrollment classes. Thank you EHS teachers for your work to bring these opportunities to students!
