Fight for Equity in School Funding

The governor's veto of an increase in school funding for charter schools is having a negative effect on Chatfield School's budget and all charter schools. Charter schools are public schools and all public school students should be funded equitably. The veto creates an inequity in this year's school public school funding which could continue in future years. This is unacceptable. Unfortunately, while there has been some movement between legislators and the governor on this issue, a compromise is being held up in the senate.

Last week Mr. Young and a small group from Chatfield met with Senator Kevin Daley during his office hours . The team did an excellent job advocating for our school. Please continue to email Kevin Daley's office. Encourage him to break from the party line and support the charter school students. He said several times that he has been hearing from a lot of you. Keep the pressure up.

Please continue to contact your legislators and governor-even if you already have. They need to hear continuously from you. Follow this link for more information about how you can be involved: Support Charters. For government contact information see the letter posted in this newsletter. Thank you for your continued support.

    Upcoming Connection Opportunity

    • Santa Shop: We need all hands on deck to help the students shop for and wrap their purchases! Join us on Tuesday 12/10 at 6pm to set up the shop, and then grab a friend and sign up to help during the sale!! https://bit.ly/2qopLkS

    Community Partnership

    • Calvelli’s and Papa Pizza have agreed to give us 15% of the sales from December 9th-12th including the purchase of gift cards for future use! And, from both the Lapeer location and Metamora location! You must mention this fundraiser!

    Giving Tuesday

    • Make your donation to the Unfundraiser this Giving Tuesday! Our two main fundraisers for PIE are the Bike Rodeo and the Unfundraiser, and we do each every other year. The Unfundraiser is to help offset the amount of volunteer time and asking for donations or selling things that other fundraisers involve. Please see the flyer in this newsletter for more information.

HERE IT COMES: THE P.I.E. UN-Fundraiser! Please support!

Parent groups rely heavily on fundraising to support the classrooms and the school. P.I.E. is no different. We respect your desire not to have to particpate in too many fundraisers. You know the feeling:

I really don't want to awkwardly ask my friends, family and coworkers AGAIN if they want to buy more wrapping paper, candy or cookie dough. I don't really want to let children wash my car and then have to go wash it again myself. I don't even bake for my family, so I don't really wantto bake for a fundraiser. I don't want to walk, swim or run in any activity that has the word 'thon' in it.

We're right there with you! This year, PIE is hoping to raise only the amount of money that we plan to spend this year, and then throw an even bigger and better bike rodeo next year to fuel two year's worth of projects again. In order to do this, we decided the best way to maintain our account balance would be to do an un-fundraiser... This would be in lieu of sending students home with the task of selling door to door, collecting money and delivering goods. Please help us avoid that by supporting PIE with your donation, and helping us achieve our goals to support our students and faculty.

There is not an official "due date" on this un-fundraiser. Some families may wish to send their donation in right away. Others may choose to wait until after the holidays. However, you decide, please decide to participate! We would appreciate all donations made by March or April. Donations from other families members like grandparents are also accepted. A thank you letter for tax purposes will be provided.

Please see the flyer below for details on how to make your contribution to the UN-fundraiser. Thank you!

PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS ONLY FOR PIE, AND DOES NOT TAKE THE PLACE OF FUNDRAISERS FOR BAND AND / OR MIDDLE SCHOOL CLASS TRIPS.

Archery is Starting Up!

We endeavor to have a balance of teacher guided academic centers along with play based/hands on learning experiences to give children a great start to their education. We also get to participate in all that Chatfield has to offer, including visiting the Willows, attending music class, playing in the gym, and enjoying the library with Mrs. Neuman. For more information, and to get your child enrolled, please email Alicia Kluck at alikluck@chatfieldschool.org, or call our ext. 222.

Have Chatfield PRIDE!

This summer Chatfield staff and a team of middle school students agreed upon and finalized a Chatfield PRIDE motto that will be used throughout the school. The motto is pictured above. In particular our middle school students really valued the words respect, integrity, and empathy. In your home please talk about what these words mean to you and your family.
