Pathfinder K-8 Library News π
October 2021
Meet the Librarian!
I'm Ami, your Pathfinder librarian. I've taught at Pathfinder K-8 since 2004. Before I became the librarian, I was the 8th grade Humanities teacher for many years and still have my 2 pet snakes from the Snake Class with me in the library. The kids often read to Percy, the corn snake, because he pokes his head out when they do. It's pretty adorable.
I see every K-5 class once a week and the middle schoolers every other week. The kids have been so happy to be back in the library and are checking out an epic amount of books. Checkouts are for 2 weeks and can be renewed as long as there isn't a hold on the book. Students can still use the online Destiny catalog to browse and put books on hold. There is a link at the bottom of the page.
I love to read! My favorite genres are literary fiction, memoirs, science fiction, fantasy, and nonfiction that impacts how I understand the world. As you might expect, I also read A LOT of children's, middle grade, and YA books.
I live in West Seattle so you might run into me at Paper Boat Books, Pegasus, the Farmers' Market, or the Westcrest dog park.
My superpower is connecting kids with books they love! β₯

Project LIT is Back!
Founded by high school teacher Jarred Amato, Project LIT is a national, grassroots LITeracy movement, a network of dedicated teachers and students who are committed to increasing access to culturally relevant books and promoting a love of reading in our schools and communities. There are over 1700 chapters in all 50 states!
According to Jared, "Project LIT is not just about books; itβs also about belonging. Itβs about building a community of readers and writers. Itβs about empowering our young people and providing our students with as many positive literacy experiences as possible."
