READ-A-THON
PTO is running a Read-a-thon as our second fundraiser for the year and to encourage reading during March is Reading Month. Your contribution helps us to purchase materials for Classroom Enrichment, provide virtual or in-person Assemblies and Author Visits, fund Teacher Appreciation events, provide Community Outreach, host Family Nights, and much more. We only have 2 fundraisers each school year, and we are hoping to reach $15,000 this month. We are only 1/3 of the way to this goal and need your support!
We hope you will activate your reader’s account today by clicking on https://www.read-a-thon.com/readers/r/bNCJYv/1 and following the simple instructions.
Students will earn entries into a raffle based on donations and minutes read during the month. Drawings will include gift cards to local businesses, books, games, squishmallows and more! And, the 5th and 6th grade classes that raise the most money and read the most minutes will receive a pizza party in April.
The current leaderboard is:
Class with the Most Minutes Read
Mr. Payne (5th)
Mrs. Westra (6th)
Class with the Most Donations Collected
Mrs. Osborne (5th)
Miss Muscio (6th)
Congratulations to our first raffle winners! From 5th grade - Sarvesh, Anushya, Avery, Sai and Sohan. And, from 6th grade - Amelia D., Yashasen, Graham, Jenna, and Amelia H.
We will hold our next drawing on Thursday, March 24th!
5TH GRADE STEMI
PEER TO PEER
Hi Novi Meadows Families!
My name is Kelsey Gault (LMSW, C-SSWS). I am one of the school social workers at Novi Meadows. I would like to extend the opportunity for students to participate in a Peer to Peer group for the remainder of the 2021-2022 school year. Students will voluntarily meet 1-2 times per month during their lunch/recess to engage socially with students of varying abilities (including social/emotional/behavioral challenges) in 6th grade. This is an opportunity for your child to be a peer "model" and build rewarding friendships with other students. I presented this opportunity last week and we are looking for more students to apply! Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns!
INTRAMURAL SPORTS MONDAYS AFTER SCHOOL
Intramurals will run from 2:30 - 3:30 p.m. directly after school on Mondays.
Intramurals are after-school sports for Novi Meadows 5th and 6th graders. Students compete against each other in a sport. There are no established teams, but rather the teams are determined at each session. We stress fair play, good sportsmanship, and teamwork...while having fun learning and playing games with our friends. Students should have appropriate shoes in order to participate.
Please see the attached documents for our FAQ and schedule.
COUNSELORS CORNER
The GLAD Ritual
It is important to slow down and connect as a family even on our busiest days. We came across this simple, yet meaningful, daily routine to initiate conversation with your family. These prompts can serve as conversation starters and also help your family focus on the positive things happening in your lives. Be GLAD!
Gratitude: what is something you were grateful for today?
Learning: what is something new you learned today?
Accomplishment: what is something you did/or completed today?
Delighted: what is something that made you joyful today?

MEADOWS MUSIC DEPARTMENT T-SHIRTS
With spring concerts coming up, whether in person or virtual, the music teachers at Meadows (myself, Ms. Rais and Mr. Cooper) have decided to go with a more casual approach for attire. In order to unify the look on stage, we are offering Meadows Music Department t-shirts in kelly green for students to purchase for $7.95 plus shipping.
You DO NOT have to purchase this shirt- if you don't want to buy it, you can just wear any green t-shirt to the concert so that you blend into the sea of green. :)
Attached is a note with directions on how to order. One word of caution- please, please check your sizes carefully. We often have parents order an ADULT medium or large with they wanted a YOUTH medium or large, and the shirts are not returnable or refundable.
Here is the link to purchase. Our cart will be open until March 25th (before spring break). You will get your shirt approx. 2 weeks after the cart closes, delivered to your home.

ABSENT HOMEWORK
Novi Meadows Parents:
When students are absent, teachers will do their best to fill them in on the work they miss. Teachers utilize a variety of tools to keep students up to date on work (Schoology, Google Classroom, on-line planners, etc.). It is not feasible to have absent students Zoom into classes that are happening at school. In addition, teachers are not able to privately Zoom with students who are absent to reteach the lessons. Teachers will provide the work that can be replicated to students upon their return. It is not always possible to recreate classroom discussion or activities
NON BUS DAYS FOR BUS RIDERS
