2nd & 3rd Grade
Class Newsletter
Week of April 11
Reminder:
Wednesday, April 13; Noon Dismissal--Professional Development Day
If your child will be attending Extended Care please let us know so we can order lunch for them. No lunches will be prepared because of early dismissal.
Religion: Unfortunately we did not have mass last week, but we will be having mass this Thursday.
We continue with 'Jesus Our Life' in preparation for Holy Communion. But we will still be reading our Bible Stories, and every week we study about the Saint that we celebrate. Thursday will be St. Lydwine. Ask your child to share what they have learned about her.
Math: Telling time is still the ongoing skills. Help your child get better at reading an analog clock. Children nowadays are so spoiled reading the digital clock. We have practiced drawing the face of the clock and identifying the long and short hands and what they say. We also expect the children to tell how much time has passed so give your child problems and see if they can figure the answer out.
Reading: We have started a new paperback novel called James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl. I know some children have seen the movie but this is where they can compare what they remember and what we read. It is so nice to see children interested in improving their vocabulary. The first word that was asked was "peculiar". It is peculiar that some words are not as common anymore. And I mentioned that most people do not quarrel - argue with words, but resort to physical contact and 'hit people instead. Quarrel was another word that the children asked about.
But we will be moving on to the next level of Superkids.
Both grades are back to having weekly Spelling tests but this time no retakes. I want the children to study their words.
Social Studies: We are moving on with the major parts of the United States in the 3rd Grade. Second Grade will be looking at the economy and its impact in out daily life.,
This Friday will be the usual Spirit wear day. No pay to dress.
Please try and come out and join us in the Jr. Daffodil parade. A flyer went out with all the instructions of when, where, how, etc.
As more news is shared I will try and send it out ASAP
I am still trying to get the hang of adding pictures. If I don't do it often enough, it is because I am frustrated and can't seem to get it right again. I have this one picture of Alden Croston's great Grandmother reading to the class. The other guest reader was his Grandmother.
Have a wonderful week!
