Bright Star Behavior Assembly ~ Generosity
24 students were recognized for demonstrating citizenship throughout the month of November. These students went home with a certificate and will have lunch with Mrs. Diee next week to celebrate!
Mrs. Goehrig led a school-wide discussion on our character trait for December, GENEROSITY. Our message was that you do not need to spend money on presents, but you are, in fact, the gift to each other. Teachers will be looking for role models throughout the month of December to be recognized at our next BSBA.
Good luck, Mrs. Goehrig, as she starts her new role as District Literacy Specialist!
Lyncrest Quilt Project
Dear Lyncrest Families,
At our Bright Star Assembly on Friday December 7, 2018, your children were introduced to the trait of the month, GENEROSITY. We shared with students that a gift does not need to be purchased, but that we, in fact, are gifts to each other. Lyncrest School is celebrating diversity. America is built on diversity. People from all over the world have come to the United States and made it their home.
At the Bright Star Assembly our students were read the Keeping Quilt by Patricia Polacco. Your children learned about a family originally from Russia where a quilt was passed onto five generations. Embedded in their cloth quilt are symbols of love, memories and faith.
In celebrating diversity we looked to a lesson from “Caring Makes a Difference”. The outlines of this lesson are as follows:
1. Identify cultural contributions of people of different backgrounds.
2. To recognize those contributions people give to one another.
3. To understand the many different influences that help to form a person.
4. To understand the concepts of family traditions and family treasures.
Our Lyncrest family will be making our own quilt and joining together; our quilt will be made through the love and caring of each family. This is an opportunity for you to talk to your child about their own unique backgrounds which has the potential of helping them develop a strong identity.
We will be supplying each family with a square of the quilt. Please help your child or children design their piece. You can focus on family or cultural traditions, family history, family values and whatever is important to you. Feel free to draw, cut things out and paste or use some words. It is an opportunity to tell your story.
Here is the link to the story, The Keeping Quilt read aloud: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7AVxr_vz0XE.
We look forward to seeing each and every patch that will tell the story of Lyncrest 2018-2019. We will have our own “Keeping Quilt”. Please send completed quilt squares to school by 1/4.
If you have any questions please reach out to me or Mrs. Diee.
Thank you for supporting your child or children with this project.
In celebration of diversity,
Deborah Donnelly

Make the World Better with a Sweater Campaign ~ 2018
'Tis the season for helping others and having fun! Lyncrest School is sponsoring our annual Make the World Better with a Holiday Sweater campaign, benefitting the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America. It's wonderful to see our Lyncrest community "sweater up" and raise money for this cause. Please send your donation (cash or check made out to AAFA) and decorated sweater into school by 12/21.
If we raise over $300, Mrs. Diee will wear a wacky sweater created by the teachers on 12/21.
Thank you all for your kindness and generosity. Special thanks to Mr. Draney and Mrs. Chahine for organizing the event!
