Greek Interview
Kenna Barfield's Interview with Nick Mitzithras
December 24, 2013 at 9:26 am
I was able to Facebook chat with Nick on Christmas Eve. He is in Austin, Texas now on winter vacation. He is the cousin of my mom's friend. I wanted to interview him because I was interested learning the cultural differences between a school aged kid in Greece compared to here. He is a12 year old who lives in Tripolis, Greece. As an 8th grader, he takes classes to learn 3 different languages after school, English, Italian, and Greek. In Greece, they get graded on a scale of 1-20, 20 being a 100 for us. Their regular school hours are 8:15-1:45. That may sound great, but they have to take classes after school, including foreign languages, art, music, gym, etc. The school winter break is two weeks, and it's two weeks for Easter with no spring break. They have 7 elementary years, including Kinder. There are 3 middle school years and 3 high school years.
My Personal Experience
This was a great personal experience for me! I learned that his favorite American food is hamburgers. That's something we have in common. Nick said, "Texas is beautiful, everything is bigger, and it is more clean. They have good hamburgers." I was very happy he said all that stuff about Texas because it makes me feel good that he likes our home. From this experience, I have gained knowledge about Greece that I wouldn't have known even if I went there. Overall, it was fun to talk to Nick about Greece. It was a great experience!
