President's Message

"The National PTA Schools of Excellence are designated in recognition of their commitment to building an inclusive and welcoming school-community where all families contribute to enriching the educational experience and overall well-being for all students."

The time has come for the RES PTA to re-apply for the prestigious National PTA Schools of Excellence designation. We have been fortunate to be one of a handful of Connecticut elementary schools to be recognized with this wonderful award in the past few years. The RES PTA has selected a focus area of improving education with an emphasis on facilitating consistent and meaningful two-way communication between families and school. Due to the current environment, we have pivoted our previous action plan to include our Back-to-School Conversations with the principals, virtual PTA meeting formats, our new diversity and inclusion initiatives and more. We will find out next summer if our school has been awarded PTA Schools of Excellence designation for the 2020-2022 school years. Family and staff PTA memberships for this school year are also included in the competition as indicators of universal support of our mission and outreach.

It's not too late to get your RES PTA Membership! In addition to being included in the designation for National PTA Schools of Excellence, we are hosting a competition for a grade level Pajama Party. The grade with the highest percentage of registrations in the month of November wins! Go to to sign up!

Don't forget this week is Parent Teacher Conference Week at RES! This is such a critical time to get to know your child's teacher, discuss successes and challenges and learn more about what's to come this school year. This year, the RES PTA is offering translation services in Spanish and Portuguese. If your family or a family you know, would benefit from having another RES multi-lingual parent assist during their virtual conference, please email Likewise, if you are bi- or mulit-lingual and wish to join our team to help families, let us know!

Lastly, it's time for our annual RES PTA Thanksgiving Drive! We have a goal to help 40 households in Redding have a better holiday by showing them the love of our RES Community. This year, the drive is all online, making it easier than ever to donate to the Redding Food Pantry. The drive runs now through Friday, November 13. See the instructions to give below and head to to participate.

Happy Diwali!

The RES PTA would like to wish everyone in our community a happy Diwali this weekend. Diwali is the Indian Festival of Lights. On the last day of the festival, siblings share their love for one another. This year we encourage your child to draw a picture or pick a flower/leaf to give to their siblings to show them how much they mean to them.

A Successful Spirit Week

Thank you to all the parents, guardians, grandparents, teachers and staff for a terrific Spirit Week! A special thank you to the chairs of the event -- Tara Patrick and Melissa Sikoscow -- for their great work!

New Bulletin Board

The children now get to enjoy a new bulletin board next to the library. El Dia de los Muertos is a Mexican holiday honoring and celebrating family members who have passed away.

Big thank you to Maisie Todd Wallick, Melissa Stern and Diana Jimenez!

Giving Feels So Good!

Help Redding senior citizens and families in need by donating at the link here. Your financial contribution goes directly to local families so they can enjoy a bountiful Thanksgiving. These contactless donations. Drive runs from November 9-13.

Join the PTA!

As a PTA, our main goals will remain what they have always been:

  • To provide academic, cultural and social programs for our children to enhance their learning and
  • To support our teachers and staff and to act to unify our school community.

This year, the way this will be done may look different, but we are committed to doing all that we can do to meet these goals. And we cannot do it without the support of every RES family!

To fulfill our mission for a unified parent/ teacher community, we strive for 100% PTA membership. Dues are $25 per family this year. For more information on how to join, go to:

We are planning lots of safe and exciting virtual events this year that will be available to PTA members only, so sign up today!

Explore the Arts and Express Yourself

National PTA's Reflections program provides opportunities for recognition and access to the arts which boost student confidence and success in the arts and in life.

Each year, over 300,000 students in Pre-K through Grade 12 create original works of art in response to a student-selected theme. This 50+ year-old program helps them explore their own thoughts, feelings and ideas, develop artistic literacy, increase confidence and find a love for learning that will help them become more successful in school and in life.

The theme for the 2020-2021 program year is I Matter Because.... Students submit their completed works of art in one or all of the available arts categories: Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, Visual Arts.
