From Pandemic to Proactive: Parenting this Winter and Beyond
It is clear that right now, all of us are living through a very difficult time. Even in the best of
times, parenting can be challenging, but right now, it might seem overwhelming. However,
there are ways that we empower ourselves and our families to thrive through this winter—and
it starts with a little bit of brain science.
Join Donna Volpitta, Ed.D. from Pathways to Empower, as she guides us through her Resilient
Mindset Model, which provides simple explanations for how we can proactively build resilience
and foster mental health. You will leave the session with strategies that you can
implement right away in all aspects of your life.
Have questions you’d like to submit ahead of the session? Email respta4kids@gmail.com

President's Message
"The National PTA Schools of Excellence are designated in recognition of their commitment to building an inclusive and welcoming school-community where all families contribute to enriching the educational experience and overall well-being for all students."
The time has come for the RES PTA to re-apply for the prestigious National PTA Schools of Excellence designation. We have been fortunate to be one of a handful of Connecticut elementary schools to be recognized with this wonderful award in the past few years. The RES PTA has selected a focus area of improving education with an emphasis on facilitating consistent and meaningful two-way communication between families and school. Due to the current environment, we have pivoted our previous action plan to include our Back-to-School Conversations with the principals, virtual PTA meeting formats, our new diversity and inclusion initiatives and more. We will find out next summer if our school has been awarded PTA Schools of Excellence designation for the 2020-2022 school years. Family and staff PTA memberships for this school year are also included in the competition as indicators of universal support of our mission and outreach.
It's not too late to get your RES PTA Membership! In addition to being included in the designation for National PTA Schools of Excellence, we are hosting a competition for a grade level Pajama Party. The grade with the highest percentage of registrations in the month of November wins! Go to www.resctpta.membershiptoolkit.com to sign up!
Don't forget this week is Parent Teacher Conference Week at RES! This is such a critical time to get to know your child's teacher, discuss successes and challenges and learn more about what's to come this school year. This year, the RES PTA is offering translation services in Spanish and Portuguese. If your family or a family you know, would benefit from having another RES multi-lingual parent assist during their virtual conference, please email RESPTA4KIDS@gmail.com. Likewise, if you are bi- or mulit-lingual and wish to join our team to help families, let us know!
Lastly, it's time for our annual RES PTA Thanksgiving Drive! We have a goal to help 40 households in Redding have a better holiday by showing them the love of our RES Community. This year, the drive is all online, making it easier than ever to donate to the Redding Food Pantry. The drive runs now through Friday, November 13. See the instructions to give below and head to https://store.caraluzzis.com/gift-cards-for-charity/ to participate.

Explore the Arts and Express Yourself
National PTA's Reflections program provides opportunities for recognition and access to the arts which boost student confidence and success in the arts and in life.
Each year, over 300,000 students in Pre-K through Grade 12 create original works of art in response to a student-selected theme. This 50+ year-old program helps them explore their own thoughts, feelings and ideas, develop artistic literacy, increase confidence and find a love for learning that will help them become more successful in school and in life.
The theme for the 2020-2021 program year is I Matter Because.... Students submit their completed works of art in one or all of the available arts categories: Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, Visual Arts.
