Modeling........Essential Key to Student Learning
"Most human behavior," according to Stanford professor Alfred Bandura, "is learned observationally through modeling." (Edutopia Article, "the Nuts and Bolts of Explicit Modeling." by: Todd Finley)
Sometimes we forget the most important aspects of teaching and learning, usually due to lack of time in the school day! It is time to take a step back and reflect, "Do I consistently model for my students?" Do we really know what modeling should look like?
Modeling includes:
- visuals and examples
- speaking aloud your thinking process as you show
- communicate effectively what you are doing and what all you may need in this process
- model using only the needed information
The two short articles below are well worth the read. They are quick reads, but full of great reminders about why we need to model for students in all subject areas every day!
