Adoptions to Donations; Saving Lives

The relationships that are built through the VRHS adoption process often last a life time and beyond. We cherish those ties.

In June 2008 Cliff and Maggie Umscheid adopted Bear from VRHS. In October of 2017 Sarah Sims adopted Bailey from VRHS. After the loss of Bear's family he was fortunate enough to be adopted by Sarah. Sarah is a loyal advocate and supporter of the VRHS and we know she loves her fur babies. Many of our donors are also adoptive parents to dogs or cats from VRHS. These are the relationships that bind us and support our mission.

Pictured above are Bear and Bailey living happily ever after with Sarah. Sarah sent VRHS a extremely generous donation and a lovely letter of thanks to VRHS. We sincerely want to thank Ms. Sarah Sims for her donation given in loving memory of Cliff and Maggie Unscheid and in honor of Bear Buddy and Bailey Boy.

Trivia & Silent Auction at Chevelles 66

To everyone who came out for our Silent Auction and Trivia Fundraiser at Chevelles 66 in Murphy; our sincere thanks. Between donations, trivia entries, and the silent auction we raised a tidy sum to go toward Valley River Humane Society's Shelter. The need is always great so every donation of money, supplies, or time means a great deal. Also a big thank you to the Cherokee Scout for reporting on this event. The Scout has always been a valued supporter of VRHS.

Pictured below is VRHS Board President Melody Johnson and Board Member and Fundraising Chairperson Lisa Pursel. Thanks to Lisa's continued hard work on this and many other fundraisers the VRHS Shelter makes ends meet. See the full articule in this week's addition of the Cherokee Scout.

Heidi's Fund

A generous Murphy family comes to the rescue after seeing the edititoral in the August 18, 2021 Cherokee Scout regarding the Valley River Humane Society. The needs at the shelter are great so this family started " Heidi's Fund" for VRHS at United Community Bank in Murphy. Their deposit was for $1000! Their hope is to see this account grow to help the shelter. They are asking local families to donate $10 or more to help the animals at the shelter. Please visit United Community and make your deposit out to VRHS for Heidi's Fund.

VRHS Thrift Store News

Volunteers needed! This is an easy and rewarding volunteer opportunity. Come by and talk to us.

Over 40% of all expenses for the Shelter are subsidized by the VRHS Thrift Shop! So, every time you donate to or buy something from the Thrift Shop it REALLY helps.

Anytime you clean out your closet, your basement, your attic, or any other area, please bring those things to us you no longer need or want. We can then turn around and resell those things and those proceeds go to helping the animals. Please visit the Thrift Stop often. There are some GREAT bargains and it really helps!
