Novak's News
Room 12 - John Lyman School - January 15, 2015
Author Leslie Bulion Visits
Leslie Bulion, the author of The Universe of Fair, came to John Lyman School to talk with us about her book on January 14th. After we shared some of our comments about this book on her blog, she contacted us and offered to come discuss the book. Students from our class and Mrs. Sibiskie's class shared questions and thoughts about the characters, setting, and story events as we met in the Library. Leslie even brought the big wooden cut-out of the main character, Miller, which has shown up at the Durham Fair since the book was published. She explained how it was made and told us how exciting it was to have a local illustrator - an art teacher and illustrator who lives in Branford - for this book too. We got a sneak peek of Leslie Bulion's newest book of science poems, which will be published in March 2015.

Students will need to have appropriate outdoor clothing. A reminder will be sent home closer to the date. Parents are welcome. Please let Ms. Novak know if you would like to join us (in case plans change due to weather).
Valentines' Day Celebration - Thursday, February 12, 1:15-1:45 p.m.
We will celebrate Valentines' Day a few days early, since it's not on a school day this year. If students would like to bring in Valentines, they should bring one for each student in the class. There are 17 students in our class this year. A list with students' names will be sent home by the end of January. Students will decorate a bag at school and should plan to deliver their Valentines in the morning on Feb. 12.
Upcoming Events, including due dates for different parts of the Family Heritage project, will be updated on our class website in the next few days.
