Thundering Herd
Woodbury Junior-Senior High School - Weekly Newsletter
March 9, 2018
Message from the Principal
Hello parents,
We began the week with our Junior High Herd Hotshots program. Students who earned a 75 or above in each of their classes, who were not absent/late, and who did not receive any office referrals for the month of February were invited down to the Cap Paine Gym to celebrate. Students played Gaga ball and Giants, Wizards, Elves. You can check out some of the pictures from the event below.
Both our Girl's and Boy's Basketball teams played for South Jersey Group 1 Championships this week. While the girls suffered a defeat in that game, the boys won the sectional title and went on to defeat the Central Jersey champ last night. They will play for the Group 1 state championship on Sunday at 7 pm at the Rutgers Athletic Center. This is the second year in a row our boys will be playing for the state title. If they win, it will be for the first time in school history.
As always, kudos to all of our loyal fans who have come out to support our athletic programs throughout the year and especially during these playoff runs. YOU are the Thundering Herd and we appreciate your energy!
Students taking Business/Personal Law participated in two mock trials this week. Attorney Benjamin Morgan was gracious enough to come and and serve as a judge and preside over the proceedings. Around thirty students participated in the trials either as a member of the prosecution, defense team, jury or witnesses. Mrs. Dare did a great job organizing the trials and providing this platform for students to really shine!
7th and 10th grade students had their Townhall assemblies this week. The 7th graders continued their exploration of digital citizenship. They read and discussed cyber-bullying examples and brainstormed ways for the participants in the scenario to have better responded to the situation. Every time we speak about these things we raise awareness for anti-bullying efforts and help strength the character of our students.
Finally, we will be hosting the SATs here at Woodbury tomorrow morning. If you plan on attending, be sure to bring a photo ID!
Thanks and I hope to see many of you at the game on Sunday!
Keep Love Present,
Dr. Vivadelli

Mock Trials
Mrs. Dare's students participated in two mock trials in the library. Both exhibitions were criminal cases. The first involved a woman who murdered her husband and the second involved a home invasion/aggravated battery case. Students assumed the role of every member of a courtroom sans the judge. It was amazing to see the transformation of some students from mild mannered, quiet individuals into assertive, opinionated attorneys! Many staff members came down to witness the event and offer support. Our students really shined!
