Week Twenty Five
Our March Kindness campaign is underway. You may have heard from your students about our competition across teams to collect cards recognizing random acts of kindness. Given incentive, students have been explicitly using positive language to one another, going out of their way to clean up after themselves, and even offer empathy and compassion to others in times of need.
Although one can make the argument that students are only being kind because of incentive, it is clear that students need to be given an opportunity to model positive behaviors with positive reinforcement. Additionally, with the explicit outpouring of kindness across grade levels, students are seeing increased models of kindness to mirror and grow their social emotional, and interpersonal skill sets.
In other news: Last Wednesday, we held our finals for the school-wide Spelling Bee. Congratulations to Leo Oakes, 5th grader on the Lime team, for his victory in our Bee, which I hope to make a new annual tradition at Amesbury Middle.
I hope everyone has a wonderful vacation next week,
Jarred
