Meet the Teacher
Mrs. Wanza Smith was selected as our teacher of the month for March. Mrs. Smith has been teaching for 22 years. She is married and has two children, one grandchild and another one coming soon. Mrs. Smith and her children all attended Hatton schools. She has taught first through third grades at Hatton Elementary for the past 18 years. Mrs. Smith loves to see the excitement on the children's faces when they learn something new and loves each one of them individually. We are thankful for teachers like Mrs. Smith that have spent so much of their lives investing in our students!
Unsung Heroes - March's Theme is Always Honest
An "Unsung Hero" is a student that isn't always in the limelight but their character stands out to teachers and staff nonetheless. The theme for this month is “Always Honest.” This month’s teacher nomination is Avery Terry. Avery has always been a good student but is also known for honorable acts in the classroom. One day, another child in her class broke her glasses so the next day Avery came in with a pair of reading glasses for her. Even though they would not help the other child see, it was her simple act of kindness that meant the most. Avery is always putting others first so we applaud her and feel she is greatly deserving of this month’s Unsung Hero Award.
March Employee Spotlight
Mrs. Cindy Flannagan has been chosen for our staff member of the month. She has been a lunchroom lady for 23 ½ years. She has been married for 39 years and has two daughters and four grandchildren. She grew up in Mt. Hope, Alabama and attended Mt. Hope Elementary and graduated from Mt. Hope High School. Mrs. Cindy loves to cook and is no stranger to the lunchroom. She has been serving Lawrence County CNP for 23½ years. She was an assistant manager in the lunchroom at Mt. Hope, but when they closed the high school down she moved to HES as our lunchroom manager. She loves her job and says that she has a wonderful staff which makes it wonderful to come to work everyday. She also loves being around the kids. We are certainly thankful for Mrs. Cindy and the hard work she puts in planning and preparing meals for our students each day!
