Glenealy School Newsletter
9th January 2019
Message from Brenda
Dear Parents, Caregivers and Students,
It was great to see the children back at school happy and relaxed and ready to go for another exciting term. I trust you all got some rest and relaxation over the holiday period too.
Happy New Year!
Update on student progress
Over the next couple of months you will have further opportunities to find out about your child’s progress at school. Mid term reports will go ‘live’ on Gateway on Monday 28 January. Year 4-6 results of International School Assessment (ISA) testing will be issued at this time also. On February 21st (pm) and February 22nd (full day) there will also be an opportunity for you to spend a significant amount of time at school with your child as part of the Student-Led Conferences.
More information will be released on Gateway in the coming weeks. As always, if you have any worries or concerns, don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher. E-mail contacts can be found in the school diary or on our Glenealy School App.
Look what’s happened over the holidays!
As you can see by the photos, significant work has taken place on the upstairs playgrounds during our time away. It’s exciting to see the redevelopment project started. The students have adapted very well to the new arrangements for snack and lunch, which means all children have the opportunity to play downstairs during the day.
Staffing
Gillian Mee (Teacher) has started full time in 5B this week and already has the class settled and into great routines.
Welcome to Georgie James and Alex Tunesi who are working as educational assistants (EA) in a job-share role in 4L, supporting Ms Lavery and the students.
Heenu Nagrani (EA) will be working in 2M (Mrs Matthews class) for the rest of the year and a new EA, Clare Goshawk, will be starting next week in 2S (Mrs Scott’s class).
Nurse Sue Beer- Philip will be working full-time over the next few months.
Keeping up to date
There are a number of events taking place at school over the next few months, so please consult the Diary updates below to ensure you are aware of the events that are pertinent to you and your child.
Kind regards and keep warm!
Brenda

Uniform Recycling
Thank you to all families that recycled old school uniform. The PTA sent 16 large bags of recycled uniform to the Crossroads Foundation at the end of last term, for use overseas.
Click here for more information on the wonderful work this charity does.
Glenealy is committed to responsible recycling and re-use of our old uniforms. We will be arranging further collections of old-style uniform later in the year.
With the cooler weather here, please remember that we have fitting samples of all new winter uniform items. Contact Becky at pta@glenealy.net to arrange a fitting or for any enquires regarding uniform. You can order the new uniform online from www.schooluniform.hk and delivery will be to your home.

Christmas Gifts and using them safely
In the new year, as some children may have been gifted new devices or even just to refresh, it would be worth reviewing the Glenealy School Digital CItizenship agreement with your child and discussing why the agreements are important. The Year 1 and 2 agreement is here, and the Years 3-6 agreement is here.
Kevin Tibble, the ESF technology advisor ran two workshops earlier in the year which gave advice to parents about how best to set up safe guards. The mobile device presentation can be accessed here and the presentation concerning PCs and laptops is here. If your devices are Apple products, booking an appointment at the Apple store takes all of the hard work out of making your devices family friendly.
ESF Websites- Parent feedback is important.
ESF are now conducting a survey to try to find out how their websites could be improved to help parents in their information searches and decision making.
It would be great if you could help by filling out a simple questionnaire at this link: https://goo.gl/forms/qjDRSqRvXDqKp7jW2 (The deadline is Thursday 17th January 2019).
Thank you for taking the time to give us your valuable feedback.
