TRS UPDATE FOR ALL RETIRED SUBSTITUTES
TRS is deploying a new reporting system for the new school year 17-18. As part of their requirements, Dallas ISD is required to report the actual hours worked for all the employees that have retired from TRS and have been rehired to work for the district.
In order to capture this information correctly, the retired employees will need to clock in and out every day in the biometric clock.
- Retired substitutes – make sure that you clock in and out when you perform services at any campus.
- Retired Support employees – should already be clocking in and out, please make sure to continue using the biometric clock every day.
- Retired Biweekly employees - should already be clocking in and out, please make sure to continue using the biometric clock every day.
- Retired Professional employees – are required to clock in and out every day to capture the actuals hours worked in order to submit the information to TRS.
- Retired Part time employees - are required to clock in and out every day to capture the actuals hours worked in order to submit the information to TRS.
This process goes into effect September 1, 2017 so we can report the actual hours.
If you have any issues with the clock, please send a message to notifypayroll@dallasisd.org and we will contact you to determine any issues and provide a solution.
5 TIPS TO HELP KEEP CHATTY STUDENTS ON TASK
Chatterboxes within in the classroom can sometimes be a distraction that can later become a problem. As educators we must remember that students have a lot to say and although there is a time and a place for talking, we do not want to stifle the development of their expressive language. So below are a few tips to having and keeping a quieter (and calmer) classroom environment.
1. At the beginning of class establish ground rules. Once you have accepted and arrive to your daily assignment, make sure you take notice of rules hanging in the hall or within the classroom. You may likely have an idea to how you would like to maintain class behavior in mind. But also consider time for review of your rules as well as allowing the students to explain their classroom rules that their teacher has already established.
2. Give students time to talk. Sitting in silence isn’t the most enjoyable task for a student. Remember learning is supposed to encourage collaboration and be engaging. Remember to allow time for students to talk to one another or to the class. This can be accomplished by allowing the students to work in small groups or present out their work to the class.
3. Use your "Inside Voice." Children often times respond and react to the adults better when you keep a low even tone and fluctuate as needed. Speaking in a softer voice often forces student to listen and mimic the behavior. Students do not like feeling lost or out of the loop. If you are a loud the students will become loud.
4. Allow students to go off topic. Students often have to go the long way around to express their thoughts. Give them the opportunity to explain themselves the best way possible.
5. Change your perspective. Often times it’s the disruption and the volume that bothers you, not necessarily the chattering. Talking in the classroom will never end. However, one can structure the period to were students are given an opportunity to interact in small groups and whole group. Also, it is the educators’ responsibility to monitor and keep students on topic.
STEDI.ORG TIP OF THE MONTH: RULE 25
Student may feel the same way if you don't make an effort to get to known them, at least on this surface level. They will recognize the effort you are making and perhaps exert some effort in return. For more helpful tips check out the STEDI website https://stedi.org/.
