Internationally Speaking, with Principal Bryant
Dear Silver Spring International Families,
Hello November!
This is a "short," but but busy month which houses several big events: Autumn Showcase (for 5th grade families - 11/3), Parent-Teacher Conferences, the annual Jag Jog (11/22), and the Thanksgiving holiday (11/23-25). Please scroll down to read how we are conducting Parent-Teacher Conferences this year. We are doing something new!
Joint PTSA & SSIMS Community Meeting
Join us for the November PTSA & SSIMS Community Meeting this Wednesday, November 9th from 7pm to 8:30 pm. We will meet in the SCES Gymnasium (enter through SSIMS). We hope to see you there!
Have a GREAT weekend! 🐾
SY23 Parent Teacher Conferences @ SSIMS
Instead of hosting traditional conferences for all parents on the MCPS designated November dates, this year we are prioritizing traditional parent conference time for students demonstrating significant need in one or more academic areas.Teachers, counselors and/or administrators will reach out to specific parents where there are concerns to schedule conferences.
We also encourage parents to reach out to specific teachers, counselors, or administrators to coordinate meetings to support your child's needs. This can be done at any time of the school year including this month (November), and during the traditional Parent Teacher Conferences days.
Please reach out to the grade level team members listed below if you have an urgent need to meet with one or more of your child's teachers. We look forward to continued partnership with you to help your child succeed in school.

Broken Chromebook? Here's How to Handle It!
- Families should report technology issues to our MCPS Community Help Desk by phone (240-740-7020) or by email CommunityTechSupport@mcpsmd.org
- Non-technical issues can be reported to your child's school (SSIMS)
We are seeing many instances of broken Chromebooks as a result of students not using the protective case distributed to them by MCPS. Please ensure your child has and actively uses a protective case to carry their school-issued Chromebook to and from school. Please remember obligations will be issued to students which damaged technology.
Student Passwords
Students must change their password every year. Many student passwords are set to expire in the next month. If students do not reset their passwords, they will automatically reset and students will not be able to log into their Chromebook. To reset a password, go to https://spm3.mcpsmd.org/Logon.aspx Passwords must contain numbers and letters and be at least 6 characters.
Community Project
We are thrilled to announce the start of the Community Project! 8th graders have been assigned coaches who they will work with throughout the next six months to develop a community-centered service learning project.
Coaches will reach out to 8th graders in the next two weeks to set up their first coaching session. If your 8th grader does not hear from their coach by November 18, please let our MYP Coordinator know! You can reach her at Molly_P_Kuhn@mcpsmd.org.
Students can see who their coach is on canvas, in StudentView, and by looking at the big poster outside the Media Center!
