Principal Tapia's Message/Mensaje de la directora
Garrison-Jones Families,
It's always hard to believe when May comes each year! The year always seems to go by so quickly! I am so proud of our students this school year! As you know, the district implemented new computer-based testing for all students called STAR and FAST. Our students took this test three times this year - once in the Fall, Winter and Spring. We have seen incredible growth by our students!! Please be sure to celebrate your child's growth on these assessments. Thank you for ensuring that your child(ren) are attending school regularly, on time each day, eating healthy to ensure focus and learning all day, and keeping in communication with teachers regarding schoolwork and support at home.
Our school has earned a Merit Recognition Award this school year for our Dual Language Program, the PBIS Gold model school award, as well as recognition for our strong AVID program. These programs and the dedication of our staff, students and families to ensure the fidelity of these practices/programs, all work together to create rigorous, safe, and engaging learning environments for our students.
I look forward to another year working together with you to continue Growing Greatness at Garrison-Jones!

Staff Appreciation Week is celebrated May 8th-12th. We are very thankful for the PTA for sponsoring some events during this week to show all our staff how greatly they are appreciated at Garrison-Jones! This is also a great opportunity for students and families to send a letter to a teacher or staff member to let them know how their work is positively impacting their child's education! We have AMAZING staff at Garrison-Jones!!
This year, our AVID school team has been nominating 1 student from each grade level, 3rd-5th, to win the monthly AVID recognition award during RoundUp. The student who receives this award is being recognized for showing strong organization skills, healthy study habits, and a focus on being an excellent student! AVID's mission is to help prepare students with the skills and knowledge they need to be college and career ready upon graduation from high school.
Every year, the City of Dunedin recognizes edcators in Pinellas County for their leadership and impact on education and the students they teach. This year, we are happy and proud to announce that Mrs. Geronimo (formerly Mrs. Hamilton) has received the Golden Apple Teacher of the Year for the City of Dunedin. Mrs. Geronimo is a 3rd grade teacher in our dual language program. She was nominated by one of her colleagues for showing creativity, passion, excellence in instructional practices, and commitment to her student's success and learning experiences each year. The Dunedin City Council will be holding a ceremony on May 4th at 6:00 at City Hall to recognize her and other award winners. Congratulations, Mrs. Geronimo!!

A former Garrison-Jones Pioneer, Elijah Higgins, was drafted over the weekend to play football in the NFL! He will be on the Miami Dolphins football team. Go Elijah Higgins!
¡Muchas gracias por todo su apoyo con nuestra caminata para recaudar fondos! ¡¡Pudimos recaudar más de $15,000!! ¡Esperamos comprar nuevos equipos de educación física, suministros STEM y mucho más! ¡Gracias de nuevo, no podemos hacerlo sin ti! Nuestra última reunión general es este jueves, 5/4 a las 5:15 en la cafetería, y luego terminamos el año. Espero verlos a todos allí.
